North to Alaska

In June, my friend Kathy and I embarked on a 6 day walking trip around Alaska's Kenai Peninsula with Country Walkers, one of my two favorite walking companies, along with The Wayfarers. Alaska was cold and magnificent. (Did I mention "cold?") I can't wait to go back.

Our guides instruct us in correct method for frightening away grizzlies. I was unconvinced.        Ptarmigan Lake

I dare my hiking buddy Kathy to dip her toes into frigid Kenai Lake, and she actually does it!        Cooper Landing—view from hotel's rear porch
