These are my picks: Dean Robillard: Josh Duhamel from Las Vegas. If you have seen him in Win a Date with Tad Hamilton, you would see that he has the ham to play Dean. Studs and all. Blue Bailey: I like Rachael Leigh Cook. She played an eccentric teenage artist in She's All That. I believe she borrowed from Blue's wardrobe for the part. April: Although I like Michelle Pfieffer for the role, I think Kim Bassinger would make a more Believable April. I find something about Kim Bassinger believable in the role of a recovery addict who is trying to get back into good standing with their grown child. Jack Patriot: Although I love Sam Elliot, I think that he much older now than Jack. I am also not sure that he could sing. I think that the role would call for someone who can be believable as a singer. My husband is a big fan of Rick Springfield. I grew up watching him on General Hospital too. If you look at pictures of him now, he looks like a rocker who lead a hard life. Can you believe that he is 58 now? Riley: I think Abigail Breslin would make a nice choice. She was in Little Miss Sunshine. I believe that she is Riley's age now. Nita Garrison: When I thought of Nita, I first thought of Shirley MacClaine. Another possibility would be the actress that played in the J Lo flic, Monster in Law as the old lady who was Jane Fonda's ex-mother in law. I think that she has the sature for the role. So what do you think. |

Dean Robillard: I think Jensen Ackles from "Supernatural" could be a Great Dean. Blue Bailey: I don't know, she's an amazing character... April: Don't know yet. Jack Patriot: Hugh Laurie... I think he's perfect and he plays guitar too Riley:Abigail Breslin Nita Garrison: Why not the Adorable Betty White?? I'll think about Blue. "I've been a lonesome for you all my life..." |

Dean- I know he is described as blonde, but I think the Rock would be a great Dean! Blue- I would have to say Kirsten Dunst because she reminds me of Blue. She can look really good and really terrible. April- I would have to say Jane Semore. Jack- Bruce Willis. Not sure if he can sing but he would be a great Jack. Riley- Not really sure about her. Nita- I would have to say the lady in The Notebook. She reminds me of Nita. I don't think a movie could ever compare to the book, but I would definately be first in line to see it! |

Dean - can't think of anybody right now Blue - I, too, was thinking of Rachael Leigh Cook. If Winona Ryder were younger, I think she would be a good Blue too. If she were a bit older, I think Ellen Page (from the movie Juno) would be good. April - Kim Cattrell? Jack - I don't know why, but someone like Don Johnson or Bruce Willis if they were a bit younger Riley - can't think of anybody Neta - ???? "The ox is slow, but the earth is patient." |

I saw a picture of this male model and from here on out, he's my Dean:

I know he's probably too young, but he's the first guy I've actually been able to picture doing and saying the things Dean does. Still looking for my blue |

Here's a screenshot of her from Ten Inch Hero, please excuse the crappy photoshop job I did on her hair but she was just too blonde
(I've been sick with the flu, thus accounting for the incredible amount of free time I have on my hands) |

As I read this thread, Jack Patriot's obvious celeb fill-in came to me based on the description in the book, and I can't believe nobody else has said it before me.....Willie Nelson! Think about it, he's done some screen acting though not alot, He's got an incredible voice so if there was scenes in our fantasy movie with his songs, like when Riley and Jack sing together, he could pull it off even though he's more country than rock n roll, but heck the thing would be set in Tennessee, so I bet it would still sound right in place. Shirley MacLaine would make an excellent Nita Garrison character, despite her usual wonderful disposition in movies......think 'Steel Magnolias'. If not her, how bout Kathy Bates? Thinking about Fried Green Tomatoes.....she wasn't violent, but when she found her backbone she was a real cast iron b*tch lol Jessica Tandy would also be good, but alas, she is no longer with us That's all the characters I can think of for now.....need to brainstorm on Dean, April, Riley and Blue. No wait! What about Dakotah Fanning for Riley...she's a rising little star, with every bit of Riley's spunk and almost the right age. Thinking about it the only thing that would be a bit off is her weight since Dakotah is thin, but I didn't get the impression that Riley was obese or anything, so maybe they could get around that with a body suit, makeup and/or padding..... |

I'm 27-year old guy, so I'm probably not in the target demographic for Natural Born Charmer, but I read the book after it was recommended to me by a librarian and I loved it. It was cheesy at first, but the characters really grew on me and I could definitely feel the chemistry between Dean and Blue. It really makes me miss my girlfriend while we’re apart! Anyway, here are my picks if I had to cast them. Dean – Ryan Reynolds
He has the quality to appear smoulderingly serious and at a flick of a switch, become devilishly mischievous. The other obvious choices e.g. Paul Walker just don’t have the range as Reynolds. They’re definitely ‘heartthrob’, but that’s about it. Reynolds can be both metrosexual and rough at the same time. Blue – Samaire Armstrong
The first person to come to mind to play Blue is this not-so-well-known actress Samaire Armstrong. She was in 'It's a boy girl thing' in which she (coincidentally) played the love interest of a football star in her school. She's the perfect age and she has this quality where she can seem fragile and strong at the same time. I first noticed her in the music video for Daniel Powter's song 'Bad Day': http://www.metacafe.com/watch/yt-hUeLrbxjq5Q/bad_day_music_video_daniel_powter/ The other girls in the posts that have been recommended are good too, but to me, they're too 'made up' good-looking as opposed to having this raw, yet unconventional beauty. April – Joely Richardson
My other choices were Kim Basinger and Kelly Preston, but Joely looks perfect for this role! She’s sexy and talented. She's 44, so a few years younger than April, but the book made April sound really young for her age. Jack – Bryan Adams
I’m not sure if he acts, but Bryan Adams would be perfect for this role. He’s an actual singer and I think he’s aged right. I was considering Jon Bon Jovi for it, but Bryan Adams seems more masculine. Riley – Abigail Breslin
The clear choice for this role. She was amazing in ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ and she’s just great at being the single daughter. Nita – Julie Andrews
Classic actress and with a great stage presence. You can just tell that she can command a scene!
