I'm a huge fan of SEP. Having said that, I wasn't as thrilled with WIDFL as I have been with all the other books. I just couldn't work up a whole lot of enthusiams for the main characters. No idea why as I have absolutely loved every other book. Was this just me?

I think books hit us in different ways depending on what's going on in our lives at that time. I love, love , love SEP's books and I have now read WID4L twice and can say that my favorites will still be IHTBY, NBC or FP. Oh but wait a minute, I forgot that Ain't is my all time favorite. While I think that WID4L had the witty dialogue that we have all come to know and love it did not replace my favorites.

It could be that at this time in my life (economy being what it is, having been downsized from my job, turning 50 in Feb. etc), I had such high expectations about what this book would do for me that everything would have fallen short. That being said, I still enjoyed the book but didn't have the emotional connection that I have to my other favorites!!!

I know that I can read this again in a year or two and feel diferently about it.

Welcome to the BB!!!!

   Hi Cheryl:

Thanks for the feedback. When I read a book, I get totally immersed in it. The characters come alive for me. They just didn't in this book. I know it's been talked about already, but while I was reading it, I kept seeing the whole Brad/Angie/Jen circle. It was their faces I was seeing while reading the book. But this doesn't keep me from anticipating the next book. I'm still a huge fan.

Maria

   Hi Maria,

I also had visions of Brad/Angie/Jen but that didn't affect the reading of the book for me. I didn't have the same connection to the characters as I usually do but once again, that is probably more of a reflection of where I am in my life than a fault of the book!!!!

I always look forward to a new book from SEP!!!

Introduce yourself on the main discussion board sometime....you'll find that everyone is very welcoming.

I too am not a fan of this particular book. I am devoted to all her others even the old ones and I have collected and cherished them. The Angelina/Brad/Jen vision was clearly referenced in the book whether purposely or not but I couldn't really put my finger on what it is that distanced me. Perhaps it's the formula that's being used repeatedly, the ruggedly handsome bad boy with a heart of gold trying to prove to the heroine that he's no good for her. The down-on-her-luck but ever plucky girl who's not his type but wins him over in the end. However, I eagerly await all of her books and will continue to read this fabulous novelist.

hi, it's my first time in this forum too and i just finished with the book last night. I liked it but not really sure if I loved it as much as the old ones so it's definitely not just you. When First Lady came out, I also just liked it (not loved it) but I was reading it mostly because of Lucy (I think it had something to do with the not so pleasant surname -- Jorik haha). But SEP's trademark wit was ever present and there were moments.

I'm re-reading Dream a Little Dream now (which ive read 3 x before already, along with the others) for good measure. pretty sure i'll be running through my entire collection in a week again now that i got started.

Hi: I love SEP books. I have read, re-read, listened and re-listened to all of her books. Of course there are some that are my favorites, but I have enjoyed the strength of the characters and all of the stories to date. I also highly anticipate each new release (OK, I get a little crazy as the release dates get closer!). I was disappointed in WID4L. The comparison to Jen/Brad/Angelina did not work for me. I couldn't get past it, and frankly thought it may have been written to appeal to a mass market that is not as interested in the bigger books/themes/characters that are typical SEP.

SEP heads the list of my favorite authors. This said, I can't say I enjoyed Natural Born Charmer as much as her other books. Just couldn't make an an emotional connection with the characters. With all of the books, I read them first and then listen to the audio version. I must say that Julia Gibson's reading left me flat. Anna Fields will never be matched, but I would hope the publishers of the audio books find a reader with better voice characterizations. Julia seemed like an amateur and I'm surprised they used her for such a popular author.

Feeling blue here. I know I'm just being whiney, but I wish comments on the books people don't like would go on other web sites. There are so many zillion places on the web to go to criticize. I know. I'm being a baby... But I love each book so much or, believe me, you'd never see the pages in print. Again, it doesn't bother me one bit on other web sites--absolutely fair game--but this is a site I sponsor, and I want it to be a cozy, nurturing haven for everybody...including me! Double sigh...

   SEP,
I found Heaven, Tx in the book store and it opened this whole new world of your books. I love them. I'd also like to say that this discussion board is the nicest that I've found. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Thanks for making my world a little bit better.
Steph

   SEP,

As we are all fans of your books, we're bound to have ones we prefer in comparison to others, and I understand it can stink to hear not only praise but criticism. But don't despair, I'm going to attempt to cheer the mood and bring back the cozy atmosphere. :)

I'm a new member to your message boards, but I have been a serious fan of yours for about 2 years. As of last night, I can say that I've read all of your books, and found such joy and humor inside of them that I've passed many (Natural Born Charmer and Ain't She Sweet, especially) to friends and family members. I can confidently say that they have all enjoyed them as much as I have. We've had debates over our favorites (mine is Ain't She Sweet, while my mother is adamant that Natural Born Charmer, with the headless beaver costume, is the most enjoyable).

I read Honey Moon for the first time last night, and haven't been able to identify what aspect of that book struck such a wonderful chord in me. I began reading it around 11PM and continued until the final page at around 4AM. I couldn't stop, I was a woman possessed. It may actually surpass Ain't She Sweet for my current favorite.

I'm glad that these message boards not only give an opportunity for fans to converse with each other, but also the ability to demonstrate their gratitude to you for creating these beautiful works.

Honey, Blue, Sugar Beth, Daisy, Annabelle and your many other beautiful heroines and heroes have brought so much laughter into my life, and I thank you.

Alli, 19

I am kind of feeling the same way. I listen to audio books and I chalked it up to a different narrator, but it is like there is something missing. I don't get the chemistry between Georgie and Bram like the main characters in the other books. Georgie isn't as witty and as much of a smartass as SEP's other leading ladies. I know they shouldn't all be cookie cutter character's but I think that is what I love about her books. But I, as a listener do feel that who really brought out the best in her characters was Anna Fields aka Kate Fleming and having someone else do her books now does leave me a little...I don't the words...lacking.
