"girl with the dragon tattoo"

am i the only one in the universe who is not going to read the sequels?

I simply couldn't handle the depravity. I wondered if it was because I'm older now but realized that were I in my 30s I still wouldn't have liked it.

That said, I am glad there are books for everyone.

relieved...went to amazon to read reviews.

it got 4 out of 5 stars. the lower rated folks cited the same things I had trouble with.

I guess I'm just not part of the majority on this one.

I listened to it on my Ipod and had a really hard time with it. There were times I switched to another book for awhile. I hate wasting money on a book I don't like. It gave me the creeps. Also, I had a terrible time keeping the characters straight. The names were confusing or maybe that was just me.
I won't waste my time on any other books of his.

On the flip side, that really is the worst of the books. The second and third is mostly the fall-out. There's violence but not on the level of the first. The first is mostly stand-alone though. I found the second very easy to read and it leads right into the third which I'll finish eventually. For some reason with the books, I like to take a break halfway through.

I'm with Lil Sis in terms of reading the first one and not intending to read any more. That said, I think this is a brilliant series. The characters are incredibly memorable and the author uses setting brilliantly. If you like thrillers, I recommend with the caution that the first third of Dragon Tattoo is a bit slow. Stick with it. If you're a wimpy reader like Lil Sis and me, you might want to steer clear.

You have to know that Susan did not say a word to me about the book. In fact, I needed something to read on the plane and she was standing with me when I bought it.

Honest, we are like siamese twins...we find we have very few original thoughts. sigh.

Wow, I give everyone who is curious a big warning before they read the book. I know for a fact that my family would hate it. My sister because it's too long and wordy and my mom because it's too icky. She already doesn't read much fiction so I think it would be too much for her. I did a lot of research about the series before I committed to reading it.

I read TATTOO and really got hooked (okay I like books like this, but not all the time) but I had a really hard time getting the names of places right, so I got the other 2 on audio and really enjoyed them. I even found TATTOO the movie (with sub-titles) on NetFlix and watched it. The movie wasn't able to get all of the story into it, but I enjoyed it....DH couldn't figure out what was going on!

Yes TATTO was 'rough' but the next 2 did a wonderful job of following through with tying up all the loose ends. Over all I really liked the whole series, but I agree it is not for everyone.
