"WAYR week of Aug. 15 - Aug. 21?"

I can't believe this hasn't been started yet.

I'm not reading a romance right now. Still working on South of Broad by Pat Conroy. Wonderful book but sad and emotional in some places. Very complex just like his other books.

So what are you ladies reading?

I am loving this book. I enjoyed Coming Undone and the start of Witches Knot series, but I absolutely love this book. I can't wait for Adrian's book. Thanks to Jenny for the recommendation.

I'm finally reading Crazy for Love by Victoria Dahl. I've had the book for some time and picked it up to read but couldn't get into it. I'm giving it another try to today and so far so good. I've read the other Dahl contemps and really liked them.

I had some difficulty with this one. It wasn't my favorite, but it was enjoyable and cute. I really liked her latest historical, and I don't like historicals in general.

I was not overly fond of this one, either. Far fetched heroine situation, and the hero's issues made him a bit less heroic, IMO.

But I have enjoyed her previous contemps and will continue to pick them up.

I did finish it and totally agree with you Lisa. The hero was such a weakling. Not strong at all and also the story for me was not so great.

Which book should I start reading first?

She does have a 3-book series before her current, but her current starts a new series. I like her historicals more, but they're still fun and spicy. I know there were some criticisms about the heroine in the current book, but I didn't mind her. I am looking forward to her brothers' stories (and hopefully her cousin maybe).

This is book 3 in the trilogy. I've loved it. Almost finished and experienced the joy of immediacy when I was able to get the last 2 as ebooks.

Its different, the hottie romance reader probably would be disappointed but I just love the 'fairy tale' feel to it. So won't be long and I will have it finished. Thanks to Dawn for starting me on this author.

I am reading her Magnolia Sky. It is one of the many books that was in the bag that I won at the RWA raffle. I had never read any of her books before, and I am enjoying it. Finding it 'different' to go back to holding a paperback book instead of the Kindle though.

I have several of her books and others from the Women's Fiction chapter of the RWA to go through too.

I never noticed that but you're right. They are very similar in tone and in their ability to invoke emotion. The big difference for me though is that I think Toni Blake's books are more romance where Robyn Carr seems to be a bit of a mix between romance and women's fiction.

Dawn, I just realized that Laura Z bought this book at the RWA Literacy Signing. She kept going on and on about it too. I got your PM with the link for free download, so I'll try to save it for now to read later.

If I had more money, I may buy myself an e-book reader just for these free reads. In Canada, we have Kobo from our major chain bookstore, but I think we also now have the Kindle available to us. Let's see how I do with my finances by the end of the year.

My memory is fuzzy, but don't you have a blackberry? If you do, you can download the free blackberry application, and read it on that. I read books on my i-Pod Touch, and though it sounds unlikely, I like reading books on it; the size doesn't bother me at all. But that's a good idea to download the book while it's free, in case you get a Kindle later. If you don't have a blackberry, they have a p.c., iphone, itouch, ipad, android application. Jenny got it too, but I don't know if she got it free. She has the Nook. Though they're not alpha heroes, you really grow to love them. I think you'll enjoy the book. That's really cool that Laura Z. got it. I'll have to get on facebook and connect with her on it.

Aren't freebies great? When you finish it, you'll have to tell me what you think.

I finished the first Breeds book, by the way. And I must say that I'm hooked. I was a little disappointed that the second book wasn't Kane and Sherra's book. I almost did some book-hopping to get to their story, but I actually had some will-power.

I finally finished A Kiss at Midnight. It was soooo good! I'd venture to say it was one of the best new books I've read all year. I highly recommend it, especially if you like Cinderella stories. Oh and I have to add that if you enjoy sexual tension, this book has a great, great first love scene IMO!

Now I'm reading Hot in Here by Sophie Renwick. I've never read her before, and it's erotic romance which I don't read often, but this book was getting tons of great reviews on Goodreads, so I decided to check it out. So far I'm really glad I did, it's GREAT!

Now that I've FINALLY finished my work project, I have time to read

I'm currently enjoying the new Jill Shalvis Harlequin Blaze book, The Heat is On. There is a good book about the hero's brother that is part of a Blaze anthology, but it is not necessary to read it before The Heat is On.

After that, Meg Benjamin's Long Time Gone: This is book 4 in the Konigsburg, Texas series...Eric's story. While I'm sure it could be a stand alone, this is one of those series in which the hero's story is build through previous books, so reading the first three books is really helpful (and not a hardship...I've enjoyed them all).

STILL have not gotten to Suzanne Brockmann's Infamous...why I keep putting it off, I'm not sure.

I have read two great books, This is All I Ask by Lynn Kurland and the Prince Kidnaps A Bride by Christina Dodd. I loved them both.

And for fans of listening to Davina Porter read the Outlander series, I have been listening to Faeries of Dreamdark by Laini Taylor. It is not a romance but about a faeri named Magpie Winrich in Scotland and her crow friends. Davia Porter's voices are wonderful and the story so far is enchanting. I'm only about 1/3 of the way through to book but I really enjoying it so far.

I’ve just started Robin Kaye’s Breakfast in Bed and so far really enjoying it. I know some of you had didn’t love this book, but I really go for the whole “girl hates boy, boy sees girl naked, girl lusts, boy and girl get it on, boy and girl are now in a relationship” kind of a story

I’m also hoping to get back to book 2 in Lora Leigh’s Feline Breed series. Had to put it away as it is one book you can’t read in public

That's why I like reading my erotica on my Kindle. Privacy.

I think that I read on the Amazon boards that Canadians no longer have to pay that $2 fee for free books. I've gotten some pretty good erotica free. And it saves so much room on space. I have over 400 books on my Kindle. Ebook readers are wonderful.

I wanted to try out this author, so I thought I'd start with the first book of the Breed series, after reading Amal's thoughts last week. So far, I think I match up better with Lauren Dane's paranormals, but I'm just getting to the good part, so maybe it's too soon to tell.

Lol, I thought the good parts in Taming the Beast came early I haven’t read all that much erotica, but the stuff I have read, I’ve been disappointed in the writing or plot elements. From the ones I have read, most felt like it was just porn and nothing more. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. LL’s Taming the Beast is the first erotica book I’ve read where the writing is actually pretty good, with interesting characters, and a decent plot line.

I’m going to have to check out Lauren Dane if you think her stuff is better

I'm getting into the book, as I get more into it. It's just a tad more serious than I'm used to. I go for lighter fare, though I wouldn't really call Lauren Dane light really.

Jenny recommended Lauren Dane to me. She recommended Laid Bare and Coming Undone which are both well-written with really hot sex scenes. They go toether, so read in order (unlike me.) They're not paranormal, though she has two paranormal series that got good reviews in Romantic Times. After reading Coming Undone, I started the Witches Knot Series. The first book is Triad. I've only read the first two of the series. Both books were good. Her other series Cascadia Wolves starts with the book Enforcer. I have all these books on my Kindle and iTouch, so I can read them anywhere without worrying about embarrassing covers. Just Saying. Wish I weren't so broke. I'd buy you an ebook reader myself. It opens up a whole new world. I've gotten lots of good free books from Amazon.

Aww, really sweet of you Dawn! My iPod finally died on me, so I stole my mother’s Nano, until I can have it replaced. I’m not too crazy reading on a tiny screen, I have really bad eyesight, prone to headaches, never mind poor lighting in my apartment, so reading on my BB is not really an option yet.

Our bookstore chain is having a Kobo Reader give-away, where you have to follow clues on Twitter. They’re giving away one e-reader a day, but from the clues they are nowhere near me at the moment. Crossing my fingers, lol

That would be great if you could get a free reader Amal. I'll keep my fingers crossed too.

35. "Fiona Walker "Snap Happy""
In response to message #0

I still haven’t had a chance to get back to Lora Leigh’s The Man Within, book 2 in her Feline Breed series, but I’m hoping to make headway this weekend. In the interim, I finished Robin Kaye’s Breakfast in Bed, which I really liked, probably more than book 1, but less than book 2. The only thing that didn’t jive for me was that I didn’t believe the hero was a psych professor – I kept imagining my psych professors from 5 years ago, and I just can’t imagine them to be as clueless, lol. Maybe if he’d been a History Professor…lol.

While unpacking my books and trying to squeeze my entire collection into 3 puny bookshelves, I came across a book I’ve had in my TBR pile for close to 12 years!! Fiona Walker’s “Snap Happy”. I picked this book up from my dad’s store when I was 16 and I remember trying to read it, but finding it a bit to adult for my taste. Eventually, by the time I was old enough to appreciate the humour of a chocolate penis, I shelved this book under chick-lit, which for the most part, I do not like. But then all that changed when Laura Z. made me listen to Sophia Kinsella’s Can You Keep A Secret, which reminded me that there are some good chick lit novels out there. So here I am, reading away

I’m only on chapter 3, but I am enjoying it. Partly because the heroine is a plus size comedian and the guy is a hot American photographer, who accidently end up sharing an apartment together and seeing each other naked the very first time they meet – funny, just realized that it has the same opening sequence to Robin Kaye’s Breakfast in Bed. Anyway, the book is funny in that dry British sense of humour akin to Monty Python or Benny Hill, plus there are tons of reference to British-isms that I’ve missed hearing like Timotei Shampoo. But the best part of all is that this book is spelt correctly in its entirety. How I miss seeing the letter “U” in the world colour, neighbour, etc. Sigh. Hope the rest of the book is as good!

I've read all of this author's romantic suspense and thrillers, but this was my first romance by her. She wrote it in the early 90's for Love Swept. Jeesh! Talk about alpha males! The guy in this one was way too macho and obnoxious for my taste.

Well, I'm hooked on The Breed series. I'm reading the second story, though I was tempted to jump books to get to Kane and Shanna's story. I got hooked into their story in the first book. And I have to read two books before I get their story!

I read Veil of Night and posted about it in last week's WAYR thread...LOVED it!!

Loved Eric & Jaclyn, their banter, the guy talk, and the hilarious secondary characters. While not quite as good as Mr. Perfect & Open Season, IMO, VoN was definitely in the vein of those books.

In the week since I've read VoN, I've found myself going back to it several times to re-read segments...a definite sign that I really enjoyed it

Hope you both enjoy it as much as I did!

I read some quick books this morning - Cathryn Fox and Maya Banks. Not quite erotica but much spicier than straight romance. Mostly I'm reading Eat, Pray Love so I can finish by Saturday book club. I'm kind of stalling with it, but I'm halfway through the first section.
