"What are you reading 7/25 - 7/31/10?"

I'm up early so thought I'd get this thread started early this week. Besides, I'm reading some excellent romances.

I just finished listening to That Summer Place, a book consisting of three romance novellas, one each by Jill Barnett, Debbie Macombre, and Susan Wiggs. Since all three authors live in the Puget Sound area of the Pacific Northwest, they were asked to colaborate and write these novellas with their main characters living in the same area. Neat idea, and some hot love scenes.

Now I'm listening to Fireside, Book 5 of the Lakeshore Chronicles by Susan Wiggs. Every time I read another book in this series I feel like I'm visiting old friends and favorite places.

So what are you all reading this week?

Becky from OH

I'm reading Tall, Dark and Wolfish by Lydia Dare and am really enjoying it. It's a historical paranormal. It has a hunky werewolf who is unable to shift and goes to a witch for help. Both are very likeable characters and it's a fun romance. I also enjoy the secondary characters, the other witches of the coven that don't want the hero to take the heroine away to London.

I finished Rose Lerner's In For A Penny and really enjoyed it. It was a breathe of fresh air for me after having had some difficulty lately getting into the historical romances i was starting.

Next I picked up another historical romance of a new-to-me author that had been in my piles for some time. Erica Ridley's Too Wicked To Kiss is a gothic historical romance and i am a quarter of the way through. it's good.

I received Jennifer Ashley's Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage and Elizabeth Hoyt's Wicked Intentions and i am looking forward to reading them.

I've finished Lisa Jewell's "The truth about Melody Browne" and it instantly became one of my all time favorites.
I can not possibly say how much I enjoyed this heartbreaking and touching story. I recommend it to everyone. You won't be disseminated.

I've started Maggie O'Farrel's "After you'd gone" and so far I like it a lot even though I'm not sure what is the plot but I think I'm gonna cry a lot when I finish it.

I'm finally reading book 3 of LLM book for this Mckettrick series that she just put out. This is Austin's book -he is the youngest brother and so far it's going well.

I have a lot in my TBR pile but don't have much time for reading as I'm getting ready for Orlando trip. I'm thinking of taking the 2 Susan Mallery books that everyone has read already to read on the plane.

This is another Harlequin Blaze book that's been in my TBR pile for ages. Have only read the prologue so far and it looks like it's going to be good. Prior to this I read "Texas Blaze" by Debbie Rawlins, which was really good and also a Harlequin Blaze.

I'm going to be meeting the Seppies in Orlando this week and just haven't had the time to devote to a long book and then after the meet, we leave Friday on vacation for a month, so I'll take loads of books with me to read then. In the meantime, I just want something light to read and these Harlequins fit the bill.

I haven't felt like reading alot lately, so I've reread some old romances. "Alena" by ML is a historical set in Britannia year 43. I've read it several times and still like it. "The Ring" by SH is also a historical set in 1750. I think SH is a pseudonym (??? is that an english word? Alias is maybe better). Anyone know anything about this author? "The ring" is also very good.

I love That Summer Place! It's one of my favorite anthologies.

I'm reading The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. I went straight to it after finishing The Girl Who Played with Fire last Saturday. I wanted something light, but I needed to know more after the end of the second book.

I did that with The Girl who Played with Fire, but I wanted it fresh for book club (which was yesterday). I'm hoping to keep up my momentum with this one. Slow reading month this month though. I think I only read a couple of books. Maybe just 1 though I think a couple of more than that.

Yay! Thanks for the info. It seems like it was forever between the first and second book. I'm glad we won't have to wait as long for the last two.

I just inquired about this recently and was told that she would like to write more in this series but she had a problem with her publisher about it. I love the series and while at the RWA I hope to meet her.

16. "Kimberly Fisk, Robin Wells, Victoria Dahl"
In response to message #0

I just finished a wonderful, wonderful debut novel by Kimberly Fisk called Lake Magic. The summary of this contemp:

"After the sudden loss of her fiancé, Steven, Jenny Beckinsale has more than a broken heart to deal with—she’s also facing too many financial surprises over Blue Sky, the fledgling seaplane service she and Steven built. Too late she’s discovered Steven was in over his head, and deeply in debt to his best friend and fellow Navy pilot Jared Worth. The sexy, cynical Top Gun demands his money back now. He doesn’t care what will happen to Jenny or her small town dreams of success.

But Jenny has a few surprises of her own, including a way out of her predicament—she’ll force this steel-eyed flyboy into service for Blue Sky. It’s the only way Jared will ever see a dime. But as the summer fades, these two lost souls will discover they’re saving more than a business…they’re saving each other."

Also finished another enjoyable contemporary, Between the Sheets, by Robin Wells. The summary:

"How do you have a life when everyone in America thinks you gave the president-elect a fatal heart attack during an illicit sex romp?
Emma Jamison never thought she'd have to answer that question, but here she is, smack dab in the middle of a political scandal that would make Monica Lewinsky blush. Trouble is, nobody believes that Emma wasn't the call-girl who killed the president-to-be with her, uh, carnal skills.

So Emma packs up and moves to small-town Chartreuse, LA, to escape her infamy and to start over. But when her grandmother starts dating the grandfather of district attorney Max Duval, the quiet life she was seeking blows up in smoke."

Next up for me, Crazy for Love, the newest contemp by Victoria Dahl.

Wasn't it awesome? Aren't you on Kristin Hannah's blog? I read it back in February. I think I preordered it last year and it was worth it. Her next one is about the friend in the air force, I believe, and I can't wait. I love how she made characters you didn't like likeable and vice versa. Plus, it was just adorable.

Crazy in Love was good, but it wasn't as strong for me as it was other Victoria Dahl books. I'm looking forward to her historical.

Lake Magic WAS wonderful!!!!! I sent Kimberly Fisk an email to let her know how much I enjoyed her book, and she swiftly and sweetly confirmed that the hero's friend, Kenny Hart, would have his own book--whoo hoo, another hunky alpha Navy pilot hero She also said that she was not sure about its release date, since her daughter became very ill in the spring and she had to take time off from writing.

I'm about a third of the way into Crazy for Love, and I see what you mean, April....I'm enjoying it, but not as much as her other contemporary series...it has a different tone that I'm not liking as much. Hopefully it will get better for me.

This morning, I received Infamous, Suzanne Brockmann's newest book, on my Kindle. I'm looking forward to reading a non-troubleshooter book from her!!

I still have a Troubleshooters book in the TBR, but I've always liked her non-SEAL books.

Aw, isn't Kim super sweet? I've exchanged emails with her and am a friend on Facebook. I didn't know about her daughter (because I haven't chatted since February with her and don't like to be a pest). That's scary! I've recommended Lake Magic to a lot of people because I think it's a good solid contemporary with no intrigue, suspense, paranormal creatures. It's just refreshing.

Do let us know what you think, Luci! I just loved it. It also got a very high rating at AAR, which is where I first heard about it.

I do hope Kim's daughter is better...I didn't want to pry, I just hoped it wasn't too serious. Very scary though!

I'm reading the series out of order, because this book got good reviews and I wanted to get hooked in the series if possible. And I think if worked, because so far, I'm really enjoying this book. It's from the Lords of the Underworld series. It's a paranormal. I'm really enjoying the bits of humour in it. Kindle sells a bundle for this series and I'm wondering if I should get it or not.

I'm on page 5 of Pride/Prejudice by Ann Herendeen.

On page 1 Darcy and Bingley were in bed...together.

I'm not sure I'm going to make it to page 6.

I finished it but I don't really recommend it. It's not so much the non-stop sodomy; it's just that Darcy wasn't very likable. He definitely got a bum rap (pun inteneded!)

Finished Erica Ridley's Too Wicked To Kiss and i really enjoyed it. She has a sequel comin gout next year although I am not sure I like the book's heroine enough to read it as soon as it comes out. But I liked her writing style.

I started the only Julie Garwood medieval I haven't read yet. Its been in my piles for some time because reviews aren't good but my JG medieval collection doesn't seem complete without it. I am still in chapter three but so far so good. Apparently its the heroine readers had a problem with so will see what I think.

Yay! That's one of my favorites of her books. I like her early books best, but I'm hooked on the series, and still reading.

In Laid Bare, which I haven't read yet. Does Erin's daughter get killed in the book? I think that would almost ruin the book for me. Is there much suspense in the book. Would you do me a favor and rank Coming Undone 1 - 10, 10 being the best. And then rank Laid Bare. I won't mind the m/m in Laid Bare. But, bad things happening to children is tough for me. Thanks for the input.

   SPOILER

Dawn, Erin's daughter doesn't get killed in Laid Bare, she died three years before the book begins, I think. This isn't romantic suspense, it's more about how she starts to cope with this tragedy and to rebuild her life. It's a really good book, hard at times because, of course, she suffers from this loss a lot but there are also lighter passages. And like in Coming Undone, family is very important in this one too.

I hope it helps !
