I’m a huge fan of EJ! She’s brilliant with words, characters, settings, and plot. Her books are a cross of Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and SEP, IMHO. Her eloquence with words leave many other writers in the dark (and not just romance writers). Her books are witty, sweet, and romantic, with enough steam to keep you reading til late at night. My recommendation is to start with her Essex Quartet: Much Ado About You, Kiss Me, Annabel, The Taming of the Duke, and Pleasure for Pleasure. Keep in mind that though the books are good by themselves, they’re brilliant as a series. She really knows how to draw out the characters and make them evolve over time. It is also imperative to read the books in order. Plus, if you go to her website, she does a lil’ short story for each of her books. Highly recommend her!

Great description Amal! That is exactly how I would describe her writing style. EJ is fabulous! Like Amal, I find her books intelligent, witty and well rounded. My favorite series of hers is the Desperate Duchesses series if for no other reason than Villiers whom I adore! I am not usually a stickler about reading in order, but with this series I have to make an exception. It's absolutely worth it. Tori in South Carolina |

I love Eloisa James! I've only read her "Desparate Duchess" series, but hope to get to the others soon. Her characters are multi-layered, witty and intelligent. Loved the Duke of Villiers. Her stories have depth, not just the tired formula love story. James also does her homework about the historical period, enriching the real feel of the period without bogging down the story. I started reading in the middle of the series, but agree with everyone that reading the series in order would have been helpful because of inter-related characters. Enjoy Dawn! Let us know what you think. Pam Near Cleveland, OH |

I just finished my first EJ book. It was funny, smart and interesting. It was however a very different writing style then I am used too. It was as if she fluttered around like a butterfly... switching subject matter from paragraph to paragraph. I liked it though but the book I read had a lower rating. ????? It had A LOT going on I mean there were 5-6 different story lines going. but that said, I did really enjoy the book a lot. (DUCHESS IN LOVE) Thanks for the recommendation ladies!
DAWN Happy reading Ladies!!!! |
