I think you'll like her. I really liked the one about the sisters. I saw Eloisa James speak at a local store and she was just the best - so sweet and personable. There weren't many who came out so it was like a party where we all mingled, no procedure at all. Very nice. She spent time with all of us. Hostess with the mostess. There is usually an order to her books if you're a stickler for order as I am.

I read and enjoyed the Essex sisters series - Much Ado About You, Kiss Me, Annabel, The Taming of the Duke, and Pleasure for Pleasure.

I also read an anthology or two and Potent Pleasures years ago. Here is her book list: http://www.eloisajames.com/bookshelf/main.php

Sorry, I have not ready any of her books...yet!

However, based on a SEP/BB rec, I have been reading Eloisa James' Facebook posts about her family's life in Paris (she is currently living there while on sabbatical from her professorship at Fordham University). If her books are anything like her lovely, evocative, lyrical posts about life in Paris, I will very much enjoy her books!

Okay Dawn, I haven't read anything by her but do have one sitting on my shelf to try, Duchess by Night.

So will be interested to see your opinion when you read one.

Dawn you started from the middle of the series. Sorry, am a stickler for order. The first two are Desperate Duchess and An Affair Before Christmas. I am not sure whether Duchess By Night is the third or the fourth.

I’m a huge fan of EJ! She’s brilliant with words, characters, settings, and plot. Her books are a cross of Shakespeare, Jane Austen, and SEP, IMHO. Her eloquence with words leave many other writers in the dark (and not just romance writers). Her books are witty, sweet, and romantic, with enough steam to keep you reading til late at night.

My recommendation is to start with her Essex Quartet: Much Ado About You, Kiss Me, Annabel, The Taming of the Duke, and Pleasure for Pleasure. Keep in mind that though the books are good by themselves, they’re brilliant as a series. She really knows how to draw out the characters and make them evolve over time. It is also imperative to read the books in order. Plus, if you go to her website, she does a lil’ short story for each of her books. Highly recommend her!

Great description Amal! That is exactly how I would describe her writing style.
EJ is fabulous! Like Amal, I find her books intelligent, witty and well rounded. My favorite series of hers is the Desperate Duchesses series if for no other reason than Villiers whom I adore!
I am not usually a stickler about reading in order, but with this series I have to make an exception. It's absolutely worth it.

   Whatever Amal said!!

I have read all of her books except the Pleasures series which i have in my piles. Loved the Desperate Duchesses series. what i really love about EJ is that she inserts these little historical details that make the book even more realistic. An Affair Before Christmas has one such detail I love.

I love Eloisa James! I've only read her "Desparate Duchess" series, but hope to get to the others soon.

Her characters are multi-layered, witty and intelligent. Loved the Duke of Villiers. Her stories have depth, not just the tired formula love story. James also does her homework about the historical period, enriching the real feel of the period without bogging down the story.

I started reading in the middle of the series, but agree with everyone that reading the series in order would have been helpful because of inter-related characters.

Enjoy Dawn! Let us know what you think.

I agree with Amal's endorsement and Eloisa's Facebook page has become must reading for me. She just announced that her publisher is bringing out her Paris year observations as a book. She and SEP share Editor Carrie and she (EC) is obviously brilliant. Can't wait! EJ's new book based on Cinderella comes out this week and it is not yet a series so it might be a good place to start to read her.

I just finished my first EJ book. It was funny, smart and interesting.
It was however a very different writing style then I am used too.

It was as if she fluttered around like a butterfly... switching subject matter from paragraph to paragraph. I liked it though but the book I read had a lower rating. ?????

It had A LOT going on I mean there were 5-6 different story lines going.

but that said, I did really enjoy the book a lot. (DUCHESS IN LOVE)

Thanks for the recommendation ladies!

DAWN

Happy reading Ladies!!!!
