"WAYR: Non-romance for July"
| |
Currently reading the Man who mistook his wife for a hat - Oliver Sacks. Read it years ago and I am re-visiting these great anecdotes on the mystery of the human brain and nervous system. What are you reading? Efy (Sydney)

14. "RE: The Passage by Justin Cronin"
In response to message #13

Hey Patricia! You thought it WAS vampirish? I thought it wasn't, at least not in the current trend of Sookie Stackhouse and Twilight. I just saw Justin Cronin do a reading at Books, Inc. on Fourth Street in Berkeley. Unfortunately I had to leave early to get Kenji to bed, but it was really interesting. He said that in creating his characters he always asks himself what's the character's secret, what aren't they telling anyone? On reflection, I realized that's part of what made his characters so compelling in the book, even (or especially) the minor ones. The first question from the audience was "where do you get your ideas?" and I had to cringe on SEP's behalf. It's funny you use the word haunting. A friend of mine and I were just discussing the first chapter (with Amy and her mom) and that's the word I used to describe it. Maybe I'm just especially sensitive right now though, being a new mom myself! We should meet for lunch soon! Jen |
