I've loved Kristan's other books, having glommed everything in the last two weeks. Only have BNT and Catch of the Day to go. Each book has a bit of a cringe factor or a twinge of 'that's a bit off' in them, for me at least. The cringe I'm finding with NBT is the whole casual thing Lucy had with her brother-in-law, Ethan. I get it, I can understand the casual thing. But Ethan was her dead husband's younger brother she was getting it on with. Of course, it was obvious that Ethan wanted her from the very first, way back in college. But still... its a slight cringe factor. I do feel for Ethan though, seeing the girl he likes fall for his better looking much loved and universally worshipped older brother. Am about half way through, sort of liking it but not loving it like I had the others I've read. |

I liked parts of the book very much but the relationship with the brother in law before the book begins didn't ring true to me for the way their relationship progressed in the book itself. I thought that part of the back story was unnecessary and not true to the character of the two protagonists. I like her books because she creates out of the ordinary situations. But I am ready for her to write a book in the third person so that we can get the hero's point of view too. I'll keep reading her. Leslie near Seattle |

Finished NBT today. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it, it was a book to read and an interesting concept, but it didn't work for me. I agree, something about their previous relationship doesn't ring true as the book pans out. I went along for the ride with Honey Moon and all of the things Honey went through and the men who came and went from her life. But, for me, NBT didn't quite pull off the same authenticity in the relationships. Loved the other books, thanks to Amal's auggestion! Next up in the KH glom will be Catch of the Day, but I think I will take a break before I read it. I've already pre-ordered the new book due for release in August. |

The things I learnt while reading this book: Never read Kristin Higgins while PMSing. Seriously, I have actually cried over the anguish of Ethan's love for Lucy. I found myself skipping chapters and reading bits and pieces here and there and then going back to reading the chapter properly. I had to, had to read the end and I promptly burst out into tears Though, I am about 3/4 pf the way through this book, I am not sure how I feel about it. I can't seem to put the book down, I'm completely torn apart over Ethan wanting him to find all the love, happiness, and acceptance he deserves. But then again, I'm getting a bit tired by how much the heroine cries. Like All.The.Time!! I'm not as bugged out about her sleeping with her ex BIL, I guess reading this thread before hand helped me settle into the concept. What bothers me though is her inability to let go of her husband... But the part that really got to me was when Lucy finds out that Ethan told the entire town to go easy on her during their softball games, and for years letting her think that she was the best player in town. Loved that! |

LOL, Jewls! I've read all of KH's books, and I admit COTD was not a favorite. I think the KH books that I enjoy the most are those in which there is more interaction with the hero. I prefer third person narrative because I can get inside the hero's head an know him better. KH's first person writing does not really enable me to do this--especially with COTD, in which the hero is extremely closed-mouthed to begin with!
KH is one of the few first person POV writers that I consistently read & enjoy. Despite of the sometimes cringe-worthy actions of her heroines, and her penchant for pairing her heroines with ex-brother in laws (makes me go, hmmmmmm), I do like her books. She can really evoke a strong sense of place, has heroines who are real and not perfect, and writes some funny stuff. LisaA in Washington state
