"WAYR Week of April 12 to April 18"

Finished reading Provacative in Pearls, the sequel to Ravishing in Red by Madeline Hunter. Started out a bit slow, but ended well. Would recommend to anyone who likes historicals. I believe there will be two more in the series. It revolves around a flower shop "Rarest Blooms" where all the women who work and live there have some kind of secret.

I finally got a chance to read Cathie Linz'z latest, "Mad, Bad, and Blonde", and it was exactly the kind of book I was looking forward too. I've been in a major reading slump lately, and this book had everything I wanted. Really great read and highly recommend it to everyone, especially anyone with deep affections for Chicago

Also struggled through a short story by Christine Warren, "Any Witch Way She Can", listed in the No Rest for the Witches Anthology that came out a few years back. The struggling was of no fault of CW, but completely my doing. I've been in such a bad reading funk that nothing appeals to me right now. Though, overall, I will admit that I did end up enjoying this short story after all. I've never read anything by CW before, so I may pick up one of her other books later on.

Good to know, April! I just purchased the third book, Lead Me On, for my Kindle!

Have you read her historicals? If so, what would you recommend at a starting point? I hear they are good, but I am not familiar with any of them...I read very few historical books (mainly just Lisa Kleypas) but if VD writes historicals as well as she writes contemporaries, I may give them a try.

I recommend them in order.

To Tempt a Scotsman
A Rake's Guide to Pleasure
One Week as Lovers

I'm a contemporary reader, but I actually liked her historicals more (though I really liked the last contemporary so I may flip in the long term). The historicals are good - good story, good plot development, lots of steam (more steam than the contemporaries, I think, or maybe I just expect it more in contemporaries).

   Thanks April!

I am also a contemporary reader, but every now and then I do enjoy a good historical. I think I will definitely give these three a try, as I really like Victoria Dahl's writing. (I'm about halfway through Lead Me On, and am enjoying it even more than Start Me Up.)

I did read that. She also has the short story the heroine was writing in the first contemporary available as an e-book. It's cute, a short, quick read. Very minor bondage, dom/sub. Nothing crazy hardcore.

I just finished reading Scandalous by Karen Robards. I had actually read Irrisistible first, not realizing that it was the second book in a trilogy, so now I went back and found the first book. I really enjoyed Scandalous and am very much looking forward to reading the third book in the series. I'll have to wait a while though because the library has a waiting list for it.

Currently, I am reading Early Dawn by Catherine Anderson. I have read her Comanche series, but I haven't read any of her other Coulter books, so this is my first. I am about one third of the way through, and I already want to go back and read all of the other Coulter books when I am through with this one!

Have just started Early Dawn, its usually a speedy read, because her books are easy to read and draw me in to want to sit and read.

Am starting to listen to What Happens in London.Julia Quinn. The reviews on audible so far are positive and say it is humourous. That's what I'm looking for after my last one. Something to lighten up on!

   Finished JS's Get a Clue.

I very rarely read two books at the same time but this is one of those times. I am in the final quarter of J D Robb's Imitation in Death. However, I am having a difficult time with getting into contemps lately and i really was in the mood for a historical and did not know which form my piles to chose i have so many. but i decided to try another Suzanne Enoch. I have only discovered her recently but enjoyed the few books of hers i read. I am now reading Lady Rogue.

I'm reading "Stolen Fury" which is a contemp romance. Enjoying it very much. The heroine is older (38), intelligent, sarcastic and interesting. Hero is smouldering!

It's set in the art history/treasure hunter type of novel, so those that like adventure and danger (and hot sex) might enjoy it.

It's also part of a series and I think I'm reading the first one (have to check Amazon.com later on).

After a slump - I read Romeo, Romeo in one sitting. (I have a slight crush on Nick, I think )

Then straight into Too hot to handle - one annoying thing, I think the eBook file somehow got corrupted. There are no punctuations for conversation, and gobbledegook for some of the Italian words. Very frustrating.

You're welcome Kate. I check yr blog every now & again...

I don't use an e-reader, I am reading on my tiny old lap-top. I am not tech-savvy enough. The file is a 'digital editions' adobe doc - read only, can't print or email.
Just realised the book file is 11,000 KB big when all my other books are 1-2,000KB. I must have down-loaded more than I bargained for!

I’m finally out of the reading slump I’ve been in since Christmas and I’m devouring and immensely enjoying historicals by Amanda Quick, Lorraine Heath and Julia Quinn.

Finished Mistress and Ravished by AQ, Between the Devil and Desire by LH (second book of her scoundrels series) and the 1st Bridgerton book ‘The Duke and I’ from Julia Quinn.

Next will be the 2nd book of the Bridgerton series 'The Viscount Who Loved me'.

Unfortunately not! I'm sneaking in from the PC at work.

Thanks to YOU I'm reading the series (you recommended 'In Bed With the Devil' at our last Euro Seppie meeting) and I love it!

I’ve only read the first two so far but have already ordered the others. I’m awaiting the delivery within the next days. Can’t wait!

The good news is that, no matter what, I'll be done with the book by Sunday when my book club meets. I'm also reading Percy Jackson for fun. I'm not feeling romance right now. It's kind of been a trend all year, but I read about one a month. I'll snap out of it soon.

   Dawn,

is this the story about the Amish kid who falls in love with the guy who returns home to his small town? It sounded really interesting, I'd love to know more about it. I don't have an e-book reader, but I wouldn't mind reading it on my computer...

Yes,

Love Means No Shame by Andrew Grey turned out to be a surprisingly good read. If you have an iTouch or iPhone, you could read it on them. I got so hooked by this story, that I got the prequel which is just as good. You can get the paperback for 13.49, but before you do that, wait for an email from me.

This was a really great gay love story. I got hooked by it and pooled together my change so I could get a Amazon gift certificate from the change machine and get the prequel Love Means Courage which is just as good, if not better. FYI, the heroes are more beta than alpha, but oh so loveable; strong men who aren't afraid of emotions. Also, be forewarned there are elements of erotica, but the main focus is the love story. I would read the books in the order he wrote them: Love Means No Shame, first. Then, Love Means Courage. And then the third one, which got excellent reviews too.

I read an article by Jenny Crusie about how to craft the first chapter in a book so I decided to go look at two of my favorite book's first chapters. Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie and Natural Born Charmer by our own SEP. I gotta tell you. I ended up reading both of them all the way through. I have read some good books lately but nothing that even came close to these two books. Thank you SEP and Jenny for doing what you do so well. I'm going to reread Heaven, Tx tonight.

I finished The Summer of You by Kate Noble. It was a very sweet historical, I enjoyed it a lot.

I just started reading Jill Shalvis' Instant Temptation. It's too early to tell but I really liked the 1st 2 books in this series so I hope this one will be as good.

Luci, her books are usually published in paperback a year after the trade paperback. Have you read her 1st 2 novels ? They are pretty good too (and available in paperback). I love her writing, it reminds me a little of Julia Quinn's. It's both humourous and sweet. Really enjoyable.

This Silhouette book was in my TBR pile and so far I'm really enjoying it. Finished the Sweet Magnolia series by Sheryl Woods late last night. It was excellent. I made a mistake and kept calling it the Steel Magnolia series. haha. Sorry for any confusion that may have caused.

Happy reading everyone.

Devoured SE's Lady Rogue. It started out a bot slow and I was afraid i wouldn't like it. Then the action started and I was hooked. Loved it.

Am now reading A Lady of Persuasion, the final book in Tessa Dare's trilogy. I read some Amazon reviews that mentioned they did not like the heroine so I am very wary of her. In compensation i love Toby.

I finished "Stolen Fury" by Elisabeth Naughton, really liked it.

Now I'm reading "Breakfast in Bed" by Robin Kaye and it's meh. I don't like the hero at all! He's a douche. I can't believe someone this inept is a psychology professor. He acts like a frat boy! So immature. I'm hoping he'll be redeemed soon, otherwise I'm going to stop reading and start the new Jill Shalvis I have.

Stolen Fury sounded good to me, too. I downloaded it to my Kindle this morning, and plan to start it tonight (One-click ordering is becoming a dangerous thing to my wallet, lol). If I enjoy this first book in the series, I'll download the remaining two books.

Thanks for the rec!

This is my absolute favorite of the series. I loved it. It was great fun to see a young Geoff--and such a loving non-traditional family. I like the fact that the heroes stood up for themselves more than in Love Knows No Shame. And the chemistry/love between Cliff and Len is wonderful.

I've started Love Means No Boundaries, and while the story is good, the editing is horrendous. What editing? Wrong names are used and the continuity is poor. It's unfortunate because the story is good. My favorite, though, is Love Means Courage. It's nice to see Geoff, Eli and Len again in Love Means No Boundaries, though.

I don't know what it says about me, so enjoying gay love stories, but I do. It probably has something to do with my favorite family member being gay or I'm just weird. I was running into a reading slump and this saved me.

This book is just great! Wonderful humor and great sex. It's definitely one of my favorites so far.

Book description:

Liberal vegan meets corporate carnivore. What could possibly go wrong?

Thomas Stone has one sacred rule: Don-t Date The Boss. Ever. So when he finds out his new employer is the man he took to bed his first night in town, he-s less than happy. He doesn-t need any more complications in his life, and the way Phil makes him feel definitely qualifies as a complication. Especially since he can-t seem to keep his hands off the man.

Philip Sorrells is thrilled to discover that the new bartender his manager hired for his restaurant, The Happy Onion, is the aggressive little blond he slept with once and can-t forget. Thom is Phil-s wet dream come true, from his angelic face to his fiery temper. For the first time, Phil hears the siren song of monogamy, and he-s tempted to follow it.

When Thom leaves The Happy Onion for a job managing an upscale nightclub, it looks like a chance for him and Phil to be together without the whole boss/employee thing hanging over them. Instead, Thom-s new position brings out previously unsuspected differences in their world views. Differences with the power to destroy their fragile bond.

So how will this nature-loving tree-hugger and corporate-ladder climber navigate this political minefield in the name of love? Very carefully.

Warning, this book contains bad language, good music, vegan personal care products and lots of hot, dirty mansex.

LOL! Dawn the book does sound like a good read. Truth be told, I never really thought much of gay romance novels. I knew they were out there, but it wasn't something I ever thought to pick up - not until I read Brockmann's Troubleshooter books. Jules and Robin are hot enough to get this straight girl going, lol. But what really got me interested was finding out Laura Z's interets

Now, I like to keep an open-mind. Reading is just another way to see a world view point that is so different from mine.
