"Beginning of the end"

Endings and beginnings. Whichever way to say it, the main thing is I have gone back onto my GP diet for my stomach condition and with it am hoping to lose a lot of the weight I've packed on over the last two to three years. So, this is a brag about at least beginning to be good and to take care of my gastroparesis (aka GP = paralysis of the stomach / digestive muscles), and the to celebrate the end of eating any bad food I wanted.

Here's to an ending of the bad foods and a nice promising beginning to to good foods and with them, to good health.

The most harrowing has been having to give up my beloved coffee. Major suck fest, that has been. One week and a seven hours ago. And counting.

Congratulations Jewls, the craving for coffee will go away as will the craving for salt. I slip off and back on my diet and always feel better when I am being good. You won't regret it. Way to go, girl.

Yikes, considering how much you love your coffee, I'm sending you some white light if in case you should falter. A diet is always harder when you have to give up the one thing you absolutely love.

But if it helps, we'll cheer each other on Jewls. I sort of had this "my body looks way older than my real age" moment yesterday and I realized how much I needed to start working on my diet. I'm officially starting on Monday, but I have been slowly easing my body into fruits and vegetables again.

Good luck Jewls with the coffee. DH was a big drinker of coffe until his hospital stay when he found out they were giving him de-caf! When he came home he didn't have any for several weeks (I only do the real thing!). Then he started having 1/2 a cup and is now up to a full cup each morning!

Good luck with the getting back to all the food that is good for you...I know how hard that is! We had done it before DH's surgery and I was doing really good on it, but now that he is trying to put weight back on, I'm giving up my diet for him! Time to think about getting back to it though.

End of day one for being on my strict diet. I've survived (thus far)!! I'm not feeling the effects of the lack of coffee, which after a week is great progress. I've gotten used to drinking water and I like it. Who'd have thought! As a way to keep track of what I eat and how my tummy and system responds I dug out an note book and will be writing a form of food journal and general observations journal as I go along, too.

One of the documents I read through spoke about the process of eliminating processed foods and bad fats from your diet, and one of the lovely side effects I have look forward to is bad breath. What?! In order to save all of those around me I've stocked up on sugar free mint chewing gum and now have a travel tooth brush, tooth paste and travel mouthwash in my locker at work. <g>

My sister may also join me on the journey, but not for another month. She quite wisely wants to see how I go for a month with being so strict and preparing meals, and how I survive my first weekend which is usually where I eat out for at least two or three meals. Salads, soups and steam or stir fried vegetables are on most menus, I hope.
