"Hot Shot"

I've just finished listening to Hot Shot and enjoyed it quite a lot. It was interesting for many reasons.... I grew up in the heart of the "Silicon Valley" and graduated from high school in 1976. 'sigh' a forever ago! It has been quite some time since I've thought about that part of my life and times. I remember when we moved to the Santa Clara valley in 1963 that farm fields and orchards were everywhere. In the late 60's National Semiconductor and Underwriters Labs opened off in the distance on the other side of the road from our house. Also remember when Atari opened. There was a fair amount of general talk of garage businesses as well. Anyone have memories of that time and place?

I remember that time, but not the place. One of the things I really liked about the book was its mention of Ohio State and football coach Woody Hayes. Since I read so much and have a bad memory for names, I can't remember which character played football for Woody, but I really got a kick out of that part of the book. Overall, one of my two fave SEP books.

Mitch played for Woody Hayes. Hayes was quite a character with a volatile temper.

If you grew up in Ohio "in the day," you grew up with Woody Hayes.

Glad you enjoyed Hot Shot!

I remember the "forever ago" well Elena, LOL! I loved Hot Shot. A little bit of a different perspective...I was on the east coast in the early 80's, NYC, working for Digital Equipment Corp.(DEC). They were #2 in the computer industry at that time, gumming my baby teeth on the Human Resources part of the business. Always watching our backs for Silicon Valley! I believe DEC was sold to HP in the late '90's.

Similar industry story for the east coast to Silicon Valley. DEC's founders were part of the MIT garage boys and built their little empire in Maynard, MA in the 70's. By the 80's they were in executive suites and we were hiring freshly minted computer science majors almost as fast as they graduated. Met a few Sam's,Yank's and Mitch's but no Susannah's, which really drew me into the book.

Welcome and I look forward to getting to know you.
