"Ain't" is one of my favorite SEP books, and I loved it from the beginning. However, it took me three times to really get into my other favorite SEP book, "It Had to Be You." First time I read IHTBY, I couldn't stand Phoebe, but I was smitten with Dan so I decided to give it another try a few months later. Second time, I started warming up to the book. And this last time I read it, I couldn't put it down. I'm still having a hard time with "Breathing Room," though. I couldn't even finish it the first time I read it, but I decided to try again...and I'm not loving it. I can't really identify with any of the characters. Plus, nothing is a mood killer like a bunch of wild kids running around. danfan |

I hated Ain't the first time I read it, too. The party scene at the beginning I could barely read with the lump in my throat and I was furious with Colin for not telling Sugar Beth about the book later on. When I listened to it though, I could hear Colin's angst in the party scene and forgave him. I still am not thrilled with the manuscript later!

So, I am a first time poster but a long time SEP fan. SEP was the first romance author I ever read. I read This Heart of Mine first and was hooked. I bought every book she had published and every book since. Ain't She Sweet was one of her books that I got into easily. To be quite honest, when I think back, I often have experienced times when it is hard for me to get into her books. Breathing Room, Hot Shot, First Lady, and It Had to Be You were some of these books. However, I have never read a book of hers that I did not like. I think that SEP creates very complex characters who sort of challenge us because they are so multi-faceted. However, I am certain that I would find the books even more enjoyable upon a second reading. |
