"What is your ALL TIME Favorite Scene"
 |
I have an easir time since I am saving some of the books, but I think right now my fav scene in a SEP book is the football game / hostage situation. I was so tense reading it even though I knew it was going to end well. First with Phoebe being mad at Dan and then finding out about her cousin, then after all this she gets kidnapped and I just couldn't wait to see what Dan's reaction was going to be. There was so much emotion and tension going on and I love really heavy scenes, and reading that there were just so many undercurrents. I loved the reactions to Dan throwing the game too, he knew he had to do it, I knew he had to do it, but no one else understood and I wanted to yell at them to just trust him had a good reason. And that why I loved how she let Bobby Tom and Bedorit (or whoever) in on it, I just loved their turnaround. And then the countdown, it felt like a real game, I know the feeling because I've seen my own teams on the brink of lossing with impossible odds. Ok, now your turn to gosh, what is your favotire scene and don't just tell us what it is, tell us why you love it. As for spoilers, there's a warning on the board in general and hey we're all reading the books so it's safe to assume. Lauren, From Neah Boston |

This is a hard one... From the top of my head, I'll have to say my fav scene is at the end of Heaven, Texas, the confrontation between Way and Bobby-Tom, followed by Bobby-Tom's realization of what he was doing to his mother by not giving his blessing. However, the scene that gets me all tense, and worried like is when Way makes Suzie play his companion, and the whole bathtub scene. I recently heard Anna Field's read it, and wow, I was literally holding my breath waiting for the shoe to drop. I think what gets me is that it really deals with the issues of widowhood. I can't imagine spending a life-time loving somebody, and then learning to move on... My other favourite scene is from THOM, with Kevin and the baseball game, and how he wondered if his daughter would have been like Hannah; actually any scene with Kevin thinking about Sarah makes me cry. It makes parenting sound so magical...loving someone so intensely, yet not really knowing them... There are so many scenes, it's so hard to narrow it down... Oh, the other one that really got to me was with Riley, Jack, and Dean, and the whole suicide thing. WOW! That whole thing hit too close to home for me, and I think SEP wrote it all out so beautifully. I mean, how does one react to a child's talk about death and suicide, when the child really doesn't understand what she is talking about, or understand the gravity of it all. - Amal |

Okay, ONE of my favorite scenes is in Fancy Pants when Teddy, Dallie & Francie are in the Statue of Liberty. Francie is lecturing Teddy and telling him how ashamed she is of him. Teddy feels so bad. . . you can actually FEEL how upset Teddy is. . .and he tries really hard not to cry in front of Dallie, but the tears come anyway. (I always cry at this part every time.) And Dallie intercedes and tells Francie to wait outside. Then he comforts Teddy. (Note, I'm still crying at this part.) And they acknowledge that Dallie is Teddy's dad. Dallie and Teddy's relationship is so complicated that it's really powerful when they connect.
And then the icing on the cake is when you see Teddy all grown up in Lady Be Good. I so want Teddy to get his own book. . . okay, I know that I've said this so many times that I'm whining. That's my favorite scene at this very minute. I'm sure it will change tomorrow. Dawn "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside a dog, it's too dark to read." --Groucho Marx |

There are so many good ones but I have to go back to one of the earliest books that I read because it made such an impression on me and made me want to read everything SEP had written. My all time favorite scene is the entire bondage dress scene in IHTBY, from the time Dan realizes how Phoebe is dressed until they make love after she tells him about her past. I like the sexual detail mixed with the emotional detail. It was very intense, especially Dan trying to figure out why he was having such mixed feelings about Phoebe. In a more recent read, as much as I love Blue and Dean, I think my favorite from that book (NBC) is when Jack realizes that his daughter had to make a cardboard guitar to practice with and he has to leave the room to get his emotions under control. Such an innocent little scene but it gives us great insight into Jack and what kind of man he really is. This was a fun question to think about. I could almost identify a favorite scene from each book. |

I am sorry to say that I forget most scenes nearly at once, and I am not much into rereading. Although I did listen to my first audio book, which was THOM. I have a few scenes that have stuck into my head: The Bath Tub scene with Suzy and Way in HT The scene between Gabe and Rachel in the rain The Softball game scene in THOM - I loved that scene. But really, there are so many memorable ones its extremely difficult to choose. I read each one you mention and go: yes that was real good, and that too...

I'm def with Luci when I re-read all the ones you have already mentioned I'm like OMG I LOVE THAT scene! lol there are just so many great ones! -From MMIYC, I love when Heath shows up at Anabelle's after he breaks up with Keri and spends the night, and the Princess Party, with the Jaws theme and Pip. -From THOM, the softball game and the drowning scene, where Molly loses the bottom of her bathing suit, too funny. and of course all the ones you all already mentioned! It's so hard to choose!

One of my laugh out loud favorite scenes is Lady Emma announcing to the world that the "truth will set her free" and that she is in love with Torie. I also love the bondage dress/negotiation/Dan's house scene in IHTBY. |

This is really hard but I also have to say that the whole ending of IHTBY is my favorite--Dan's emotions as he learns that Phoebe is kidnapped is really felt and also when he is leaving the locker room and the other guys have learned what happened and they want to go along to the cousins house--and of course when he pulls Phoebe out of the dinner and they end up in the stadium--great stuff. One book I didn't see mentioned yet is Kiss An Angel--the scene where Alex hurts Daisy during the show and then he realizes what he's done and then went to an all night store and bought baby things but when he returns to the trailer she is gone. Later in the book Daisy finds the stuff and realizes that he had really cared and was happy about the baby. Hali Queens(1 of the 5 Borough's of New York City) |

I think that the scenes that are my favorites are ones that are not necessarily the most fun. the frontier justice scene in IHTBY and then Molly and Cal at the riverwalk, the miscarriage scene in THOM, the stupid friends from LA scene in BR, the spilled wine scene in AIN'T, the Marylou scene in MMIYC, the up against the wall scene in NBBM, when Bobby Tom saw Gracie's makeover the first time, when Mat's sisters came to rescue him in First Lady, when Teddy did his social studies project at the statue of liberty, the hot tub scene in Lady Be Good, speed racer, hmm there could be so many but these are the most outstanding to me. karen near chicago |

My favorite scenes are from the book Lady be good. 1. When Kenny throws Lady Emma in the pool, with his family and Beaudines (Francesca, Dallie) watching. 2. When Kenny hits that annoying Duke But I also love the scene from Heaven Texas when Bobby Tom finds himself in bruises, and tries to convince Gracie that he loves her. |

There are so many, but I think, for me, one of the most touching was the dancing scene with Dean and April in Natural Born Charmer. It was just so poignant and I envisioned it as a catharsis of sorts for both Dean and April. To me, the dancing was a first step towards communication, forgiveness and acceptance for both of those characters. By letting themselves go like that, they were releasing the demons of the past and all the pent up anger and frustration and opening the door to the future. I also liked the scene between Dean and Jack that took place after Blue had taken the pregnancy test and found out she wasn't pregnant. It, again, was touching. There are so many, it's hard to pick just one.

ok, i SOOOO wanted to stay a lurker BUT...i just HAVE to answer in this thread i can't choose an all-time favorite scene out of all the books...but i can forcefully narrow it down to one per book fancy pants: when francie is left in the middle of nowhere pregnant and with nothing. i just loved how she realized that she had to mature and make some changes in her life. she became such a strong person after that. hot shot: it's a combination of scenes...they all have to do with mitch and susannah. i love when at sysval's anniversary party, when he turned around to see her, his face kinda lid up, when he went to go get her and saw her swimming naked, he was thinking that he couldn't pin point the day he fell in love with her, and of course the whole buying of susannah and making her admit she loves him. honey moon: the first scene of eric with his girls. just that little scene made me forgive him for the way he treated honey and has made him my #2 man...if it wasn't that i was already in too deep infatuated with kev...he'd be my #1. it had to be you: i'm sorry...i love dan and i know how awesome he is BUT my fav scene in this book is when bobby tom asks phoebe to slap his butt gotta love a hot boy asking that of you heaven, texas: hum...i'd have to say the dirty movie scene OH MY! i can actually say i can't see or hear the wizard of oz ever the same after that kiss an angel: aw, my all time favorite book...so many scenes...i saw that the scene with alex hurting daisy was mentioned. good one, but my favorite one is when STUPID ALEX MAKES DAISY CLEAN UP THE POOP AND TELLS HER TO QUIT, THAT SHE WON'T LAST LONG AND DAISY DOES NNNOOOTTT GIVE UP! EVEN THOUGH SHE IS CRYING AND HURTING, SHE DOES NOT GIVE UP! sorry, i just got a little too emotional there, i always cry out of anger and hurt when i read that scene over and over and over... and that's why daisy is my all time favorite girl. nobody's baby but mine: when kevin goes to pat jane's tummy and cal throws him on the floor. gotta love my kev dream a little dream: when kristie gives ethan the one finger salute! oooohhhhh how i loved to hate ethan! ethan & kristie 4ever! my all time favorite couple, they should of had their own book... lady be good: obviously it has to be something to show kenny's love for laziness for me, it's the part when he doesn't help emma with her luggage and tells her it's dangerous for someone who has back trouble, she then asks if he has it and he replies "not now" first lady: the demon child taking a little swim gosh, i would not have mat babysitting my kids just imagine: hum...the ending. just so beautiful, all of it. kit going after him, giving up risen glory...the baby...just...perfect. this heart of mine: that softball scene is one of the best of all the books i love hannah conning kevin, i love molly and phoebe getting the best of kevin and dan, i love the way kevin was keeping score i love my kevin *sigh* breathing room: their first love scene i just loved how they pretended to be other people and then finding out that they had to live practically with each other! talk about DOH! ain't she sweet?: oh, this one is another tear jerker out of anger for me. the whole sugar beth waiting on those damn seawillows! good for sugar beth for not quitting! match me if you can: princess party! i just love how anabelle got the best of heath and how he had to pretend/suffer at the party...BUT i did hate him for firing anabelle and hated him more after when he re-hired her so she could take him for the bookclub retreat thing. natural born charmer: everything that had to do with riley and how she was lonely and sad and just wanted to be loved...that really got to me. wow, i've written a lot but i just couldn't help myself...i love these books so much. .::Azucena::. Like Dawn, my all time favorite is the Statue of Liberty scene too. I also cry every time I re-read FP. It just doesn't get any better than a family coming together, and Teddy having a real dad. I also have a strong visual memory of Rachel in the drive-in movie parking lot, starving and pulling weeds. Everything about that scene just defines the end of the road. On the funnier side of the coin, thr baseball scene in THOM with the line "And doesn't that just say it all" makes me laugh every single time. Everyone being included, of all abilities--it's funny and heart warming. I also l-o-v-e the ice cream scene in HT. I love Gracie's revenge with the other women there, and the sexy food fight with a sexy man. Is this the same place where Bobby Tom tells Gracie the thing about stripes is that they're really for referees? |

Everyone being included, of all >abilities--it's funny and heart warming. "Mighty Kevin had struck out. There'd be no joy in Mudville tonight." Or something like that, I'm quoting off the top of my head, but I adored Kevin's mental processing of the game. >I also l-o-v-e the ice cream scene in HT. I love Gracie's >revenge with the other women there, and the sexy food fight >with a sexy man. Is this the same place where Bobby Tom >tells Gracie the thing about stripes is that they're really >for referees? I know excactly what you mean. This is one of my favorite scenes, too. Or the situation when Gracie, BT and the other lady driven in his car, and BT only talk with Gracie. I mean, how strange is that? It's dificult to choose only one favorite scene, because they always change. I try to put one scene from each book.
DALD: The bed scene in the Motel between Ethan and Kirsty. I just love the way she speaks with him and his reaction. THOM: All the little tricks from Molly. She's just a little child, sometimes. IHTBY: The basketball play between Dan and Ron. It's to funny how Ron play. I have no time now, so I'll continue later.

I just finished KISS AN ANGEL. I'm surprised this book is not mentioned more????? I think it is one of my her VERY best. FAVORITE SCENES-
Kiss An Angel- It is very dark, but so raw and real, it completely took my breath away. WHEN Daisy Tells Alex she is pregnant and he is so furious he cracks her with the whip. Actually, from about that paragraph on until the end of the book I was so emotionally involved it was an incredible gut wrenching love story. Heaven, TX- This whole book was a favorite scene!!!!! but think I like the fight they have towards the end of the book when Gracie finds out he has been paying her salary and refuses to get dressed up for him.

Hmmm...favorite scene?! No way. There cannot only be one...at least not for someone like me. I have a few....let me ponder because I have not read a bunch of them for a while. I have to gather my thoughts...... I haven't read: Fancy Pants, Hot Shot, Honeymoon, and I only read a little of Just Imagine (don't smite me...) ....................hums..........hummmmmssss..........I think I have a few - I love Button in "First Lady"...every scene she is in I just put my hand over my chest and catch my breath at how utterly adorable she is!! Especially when she tries to get Mat's attention and goes "Da da da da da!" and digs her nails into his arm. So adorable!! - As everyone else said...I really really love the scene in "Kiss an Angel" when Alex accidentally hits her with the whip..and how sorry he is and how far he goes to try to make up for it. ...I also love their kinky love scenes. - I can't get enough of Bobby Tom's jealousy in "Heaven, Texas" when Gracie gets a new makeover and she goes to the bar and all the men are flirting with her. I can't stop laughing when he drags her out of there and then preceeds to fool around with her while George Strait is playing. He's my all time favorite country singer and I was SO surprised and delighted SEP mentioned him. - The scene in "It had to be you" where they are in the airplane bathroom is so hilarious and sexy! For some reason (and I don't have any person experience...) but I really connected with Phoebe when she wanted to do something with this man that she had never done before..and I think you all know what I am talking about. I don't know..I just felt that I would have done the same thing if I knew somehow that he wasn't like any other man. ......also the whole scene with the dress and the stripping...the really really steamy love scene and the emotional breakthrew for Phoebe and Dan. - I LOVE the part in "Nobody's baby but mine" when Jane decides to show Cal all of her in broad daylight. Giggles urupted when we all realized that Ethan was there with Cal gazing at Jane in the flesh. Hahaha! And then when she lets him get a better look at her and he opens the blinds...somehow I can't even imagine what that's like. For any of the women in these books to strip before a man and are begging that he doesn't point out her physical flaws. I suppose it really doesn't matter when you are with the one that you love. Cal is a total hunk. - My heart clenches every time I read the love scene in the rain with Gabe and Rachel "Dream a little dream". Gabe is probably my favorite out of all of the men...I don't know exactly why...maybe someone could tell me? It's just a sighing, gasping, heart throbbing, lip biting, eye glazing moment when you finally see the characters losing their self control. Don't you just love it? - The whole scene with Suzy and Way in "Heaven, Texas" when Suzy tries to make herself believe that he is forcing her....I think she secretly wanted it all along...but she also had deep feelings for her husband's death which is completely understandable...but some part of me knew that in the part of our minds where we are all a little dirty...she wanted it. I love how gentle he is with her and how he tells her to let go...pun? ...and I can get enough of the completely dark scene where he takes her....it's a shame what happens afterwards, but really...a sweet moment. I really wish I could remember more about "This heart of mine", "Natural born charmer", and so many of the other ones...I can't seem to recall any specifics here! ...ugh. onto more reading I suppose!!
