near Christchurch, pretty bad one, 7.0. Isn't Lanie near Christchurch? Those down under pls report what's going on. pls.

okay, lanie lives in Wellington, which felt the quake, but not the center of the quake. Who else lives in N.Z? I know we have a few on this bb. 7.4 is a pretty damn scary earthquake.

   Christchurch is on the southern island and I'm pretty sure Lanie is in Wellington on the northern island, 190-mile/300km away.

   I felt this earthquake, but didn't think anything of it and rolled over and went back to sleep. Exhausted after week at work I had quiet day at home reading. So imagine my surprise when I turned on 6pm news to see the damage this earthquake has caused. Only 2 seriously injured. But heaps of home and infrastructure damage and plenty of shocked people.

I think Lanie is Wellington. I am just north of Wellington so just got a gentle prolonged roll.

   Glad our NZ buddies are safe.
Can you believe $2 billion in damages and no fatalities..?

   The fact it was 4 am ish in the morning meant many people were not in the main CBD where there was a lot of falling masonry. So the time helped, if people had been in the streets would have been deaths.

Its amazing all the same. I have decided I have to get my emergency kit gathered. I don't have any gas alternative cooking etc. So must up my game.
