"emotionally drained"

I just made the hardest decision of my life today. I had to have my 19 year old cat Ginger put to sleep. I have had her since I was in 9th grade.

SHe was in great health until a few weeks ago when she fell off the back of the couch. The vet said she had cancer in her liver. SHe hadn't really been able to eat or drink much and her back paws were so weak. She was all bones and lost 1 1/2 pounds since her last vet visit 2 weeks ago. It would have been selfish of me to prolong her suffering. I will say that she still made herself take the long trek to the liter box the whole time she was feeling bad. Never did she have an accident.

My mom and I stayed with her to the end. It was so fast. She was gone in less than a minute. I am so emotionally drained right now. She was part of my family for 19 years and I already miss her so much. Now the hard part of clearing away her things and going on.

Jenny

I know how hard it is for you right now - I had a cat named Bootsy that my parents got for me when I was only 10 months old, and we were inseparable until I was 17. By then, he was just too sick to go on. Hope you're feeling better soon.

So sorry to hear about your kitty. I just went through this about 2 months ago with one of my two cats who had kidney failure. It is a heart-breaking decision but the right thing to do, but it doesn't make it any easier. Sending you a hug, Jenifer.

   Jenny.
I'm so sorry. We are struggling with putting down our good dog, Cindy. She had been part of the family for many years but is having health problems. It is a hard decision but when the time is right, it's one we have to make.

I definitely feel for you. I've never had a cat live quite that long, but it's always hard to lose them.

Hugs, Hugs, and more Hugs!!! So sorry to hear about your loss. Our pets are members of our families and it hurts really bad when we have to say goodbye.

We had to put our cat down several years ago and I remember how hard it was even for my DH who really was never fond of the cat!

Take care!

I'm so sorry you had to loose your beloved pet, Jenny. I've had to put three pets to sleep, and it hurts each time to make that decision.
I'm so glad you stayed with her til the end to comfort her.

I am so sorry. We just had to make the same decision for one of our cats, Tabasco. He was about 15 years old and my husband had him long before we even met. Our whole family cried for days. We have his pal, Doctor, whose health is not great and I am dreading the day we have to do this all over again. I love animals but losing them is so hard. I will pray for comfort for you.

Micah
