"Anybody want to talk about Hunger Games?..."

Warning, I just fininished Catching Fire and haven't read Mockingjay yet, so no spoilers, please! (Although I might just have taken a glance at the very end of Mockingjay because I'm a weak person.) Both HG and CF have left me drained. I love, love, love Susanne Collins for making so many kids (and adults) excited about reading with this series. Just like J.K. Rowling. All authors should worship at their shrine. |

I just can't do it. I think I have heard too much hype about these books and can not bring myself to read them. I am hopeful that in a couple of years my resentment will wear off. Jeanna Southern New Mexico |

>Is it the subject matter that's putting you off. That's >what kept me from reading for so long. I was just like, "I >can't go there." So glad I did. Probably a contributing factor for sure, although I do consider myself a pretty open reader. Mostly too many people have told me how great it is and how I am missing out by not reading it, I'm afraid it won't live up to the built up expectations.

I just downloaded Hunger Games on to my kindle last night. I admit that SEP's enthusiasm for the series was a deciding factor to give it a try (no, no pressure there...) I have read J K Rowling and avoided J R Ward (vampires). This seems to fall somewhere in between. I'll let you know what I think when I read it. Patricia G |

I'm half way through Hungar Games, the first of the three books. I have to agree that it hooks you immediately. The subject matter is haunting though. It reminds me of the American short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson (yes, I had to look that up.) We read this in english in middle school which is also the age group Suzanne Collins directed this trilogy towards. Haunting and disturbing and compelling. Patricia G |
