"We're Back..."
| |
You may have noticed that Lil Sis and I have been MIA for a few days. On Thursday, we left on a "Tribute Trip" to honor our mother, whom you may remember passed away in June at the age of 101 and 6 months. We visited Wilmington, Ohio, where she was born and grew up. Then traveled to Lancaster, Ohio, where we lived for a number of years. Then on to Columbus. It was a teary/funny/nostalgic/wonderful trip. I think Lydia and I both agree it exceeded expectations. We also agreed that Wilmington, Ohio, and Lancaster, Ohio, are marvelous small towns with some of the most beautiful Midwestern homes you've ever seen and the absolute friendliest people. We talked to everybody and everybody talked to us. One funny moment... When we met each other at the airport, Lyd gave a whoop of laughter and pointed to our toes. We'd each gotten pedis and we were wearing the idential Opi polish! |

What a wonderful trip to take. That's so great you could go together. Too funny about the polish! Come on, what color what was it. We promise we won't start another polish war if you tell us. Both of you were missed around here. Glad you're back. Lilith |

A couple years ago my cousins did a tribute trip for our Uncle. Before he passed away he told my cousins that he always wanted to visit the national parks. So my cousins spent several weeks the summer after he passed driving from national park to national park. Each time they stopped at a park they would spread a few of our Uncle's ashes. It was a great road trip for them. Andrea in Sweet Home Alabama |

Glad to have you both back and also happy to hear that your trip went so well. I agree also that we need to know the color of the nail polish. Hali Queens(1 of the 5 Borough's of New York City) |

Welcome back. What a wonderful idea. A great honor to your mother and your roots, and a lovely way to bring back good memories. If I tell, will you tell? My OPI is "Teal the Cows Come Home." It's a copy of Malin's daughter's wonderful toes from half way around the globe. Malin will have to use her judgement about letting her daughter know that though. That beautiful young girl may not be too thrilled that a significantly more mature lady copied her! Patricia G |

Welcome Home, Girls!!!! We have been trying to behave while you were gone but some of us can find trouble no matter what! My siblings and I have made trips to where our parents were born and raised several times since they have passed. My mom died 6.5 years ago and my dad died last November. It's always been good to share the experience. My aunt(my mom's twin) died unexpectedly 2 years ago and so now my cousins make this trip as well. Sometimes we all try to go together. Glad you had a wonderful time!! Cheryl St. Charles, Missouri |

We took turns driving.....SEP would nicely brake for me....she from the passenger's seat. She was trying to find the exact location of Mom's farm growing up (it's been demolished)...I said, "One more U-turn and I'm hurling.... on you...." I think I said, "Oh God, why didn't I bring a gun?" to her a few times. She, who accuses her oldest son of eye rolling, did LOTS of eye rolling with moi. And I was absolutely perfect every minute. She's a trip. |

What a wonderful way to honor your mother. So sweet that you could both do this together and cherish the memories. Loved the OPI story! Pam Near Cleveland,OH |

I am glad that you two are back and that you renewed so many memories in tribute to your mother. How many miles did you travel on the road trip part of this journey? I'm not familiar with city/town locations in Ohio. Celia B |

Love the photo & polish. I am just trying to picture the conversations you have here, in the confined space of a car, with no escape... Welcome back. Efy (Sydney)
