"Speaking of Pre-Ordering"

Can someone explain to me the advantage of pre-ordering a book for Kindle. Can't you just sign on and get the book in a minute? Is there something else that goes along with pre-ordering. I can see the advantage of pre-ordering books and audiobooks on CD so that you get them very soon after they come out but I just don't see the advantage of it for a Kindle other than it is automatically delivered to you Kindle without you having to sign on, but you had to sign on at some point, right?

I wondered the same thing with the NOOK. When I bought the books I never preordered them either since I could get them that day at the store on way home form work or bumming around. Sometimes I find them earlier than the release date. I know preordering the actual books are helpful to a lot of people but if it is an electronic download why is a preorder used?

I like preorders because I don't have to remember when something is coming out. I preorder and when it's ready, I get an email saying it's ready to be downloaded. It shows in my library as soon as I preorder. That said, I don't preorder many books.

The one advantage I received from pre-ordering for Kindle was Kristin Hannah's Winter Garden (yes, I finally read it and it is the best; a keeper, a re-reader, possibly the best she has ever written).

Back to the subject at hand... The first pre-order price ended up being significantly less costly than the ultimate release price. This may have happened because this was when the publisher's were taking over pricing and this offer got caught in the middle. That said, they then "released" the lower price pre-order about a month later than the more expensive Kindle version.

Strangely, I find B&N's prices for bestsellers will go down if you wait. The big authors prices will stay the same, but there are sometimes preordering special pricing as well.

Patricia, I LOVED Winter Garden. I actually own the hardcover, but I bought the ebook for the special features because I'm a geek like that. She released the cover to her March 2011 book yesterday. I can't wait to learn more about it.

Like April, I like preorders because I don't have to remember when something is coming out. Especially nice if I read a reader recommendation or a review; if I preorder, I won't forget about a book I'm interested in reading. And I love that it just shows up on my Kindle!

I have never pre-ordered on Kindle, but have looked to see what the pricing was for pre-ordering but never noticed it being lower then what it would be if I waited for the release. I'll start checking!

With my luck, I'd go in and buy it again!

I normally keep a list (on paper) of the books I want when they are released just to remind me to do it!

I have found that as long as the book is out in hardback, the price will not drop till it goes to paperback..still waiting for a few that I would like to read but don't want to pay the hardback price for.

I have been trying to get the Hannah book on audio from my library, but I may just have to give up and buy it. Does anyone know who the reader is and is she good? I hate buying audio books then finding the reader is not all that great.

I listened to this and found the reader marvellous, can't remember who though. The story of course fully engaged me, and the narrator enhanced rather than took away from the book. Downloaded from audible.

I have a list on paper that I keep in my nook case (it has pockets).

As for Kristin Hannah, I read her paper books though I have her electronically, too. Can't speak for the audio, but Winter Garden may be my new favorite book by her, one of her best.
