My 3 yr old niece is fearless too. When we were at the lake last week, she wore a life jacket when we went swiming but she kept jumping off the dock into the water. She didn't want anyone to catch her. Took several yrs off my sisters life I think.

Heehee! I love it. Somehow, I have successfully avoided this kind of thing with my girls, but I honestly don't know how because this is exactly the type of thing that both my husband and myself used to do as children.
In my case I used a card board box though.

Sounds like something Little Miss would do. She loves the laundry basket, but we don't have stairs. I shudder to imagine what the two combined could think of doing!

Too funny!!! Reminds me of when we were kids, and we lived in a split-level ranch house. Which means we had a short flight of stairs going down from the front door, and a short flight going up. So, we used to hang down from the bottom of the railing on the upstairs level, and see how far we could fling ourselves into the downstairs level, by swinging back & forth and launching. The miraculous part is that no one broke any bones. I think childhood is a glorious absence of logic!!

   that's funny.

I think it's just a natural part of growing up to test your boundaries. My kids did the same thing, when we moved into our house in March the youngest went down the stairs in a card board box, and was so mad when he hit the wall at the bottom of the stairs... he was wailing - but Mac promised me it wouldn't hurt. lol !

Oh no. I am now turning gray myself from imagining what my kids are going to do when we get into our new house. They have never had stairs before.

Sounds normal to me! My son was like that, loved adventure, anything to scare the crap out of me!

We had a full flight of stairs and when he was young I'd put a 'gate' at the top of the stairs when we were up stairs, one day he (he was about 15 months old) pushed on the gate, it let go and he rode it all the way to the bottom...laughing all the way!

Okay Judy, now you should be very afraid. If you don't immediately recall, go into the archives and read about the crazy stuff Lynda's son does these days!

Having said that, my sons always stood at the top of the single, straight fight of stairs and tried to jump to the bottom all in one move. Riding down the stairs in their sleeping bags was also prime entertainment.

That is hilarious. I'm sure you lost a couple of years off your life though.

Patricia I wasn't going to mention that him sliding down the stairs on the gate at 18 months old is mild to what he does now!!

He has taken up a new hobby....he bought a sail boat! Much safer then his other hobbies, but knowing him he can find something risky about it! He is going out to do bridge jumping (BASE Jumping next month though!
