I saw it with a friend yesterday. It was very long, well over two hours. The first part when she's in Italy is fun, the middle part in India is totally boring and long and the last part in Bali dragged.
I never understood why she had to go on a one year journey (unless she planned to write a book about it). From what I gathered, she was a travel writer, so it's not as if she never went anywhere. She lives in NYC where there are some of the best restaurants in the world, so I don't get why she had to go to Italy to eat. The India ashram experience didn't really show why she found peace there. The Bali segment was the romantic part where she meets Javier Bardem. It was ok, but we were so fidgety in our seats that it was just relief for it to be over.
Julia Roberts looked frumpy throughout. No make up, terrible clothes and hair...
I guess the problem for me was that I never understood why she was so depressed. She told her husband she wanted a divorce like someone would say pass me the newspaper. She has an affair almost immediately with a younger man. Later on she claims she loved him.
Overall, it was a miss. Don't spend the $10 unless you need the air conditioning.
