"power steering went out while on vacation"

Hello everyone! I just got back from my short vacation with the whole family down at the Lake of the Ozarks. My parents rented a house for my sis, hubby and kids, my brother, wife and daughter and myself.

It was so much fun except my power steering went out which was scary since it is all sharp turns and hilly. Friday, my sis, niece and I were driving back to the house after shopping. The 20 minutes drive is nothing but crazy sharp turns. After I cleared the final turn the power steering went out and I couldn't turn the wheel. Had it happened a few seconds earlier I'm not sure we would have made it out injury free. Even the speed limit is real high with signs saying to take turns at 45 to 50 mph. Someone was looking out for us.

My car stopped right in front of a repair shop luckily. The 1st repair shop guy looked under the hood then called and sent me to another shop since he had to get home for the satelitte tv guy and the 2nd shop didn't have the capabilities to diagnose the issue. Except to say it was likely the power steering motor. I call my dealership and was told I should be receiving a recall letter on it. Could have used the info a few days earlier.

I drove my car down by myself and I insisted I drive it back but My dear dad confiscated my keys (hiding them for the rest of the trip) and drove my car back home 150 miles while I took his Sante Fe and drove my mom and the puppy home. He refused to let me drive. We made it home with no problems and now I have to leave my car at the dealer.

Except for the car issue I had a great trip and was sad to leave but happy to be home. Now to catch up on the BB and emails since there was no internet except for my brother rigging his cell to access the internet on his laptop. Lets just say where we stayed the road was one lane and gravel.

Wow that is scary (well not having brakes on those roads could be just a tad scarier though). Glad you were able to handle it and everyone was safe and you had a good vacation!

Don't you just love knowing there is a recall AFTER you have the problem? Had it with my Honda van..what? the brake peddle is almost to the floor! Honder service guy says when I call 'there is a recall, but the parts won't be here for about 3 weeks'. I had to have them do a temp fix twice before the part came in.

Wow, that sounds like something out of a novel. I'm glad you're back safe and sound, though When are the pictures going up from the Ozarks?

I thought I posted already... must have hit preview instead of post.

Very scary. I'm glad you and your dad both made it home safely. Good luck on getting a quick fix.

Sorry about the car trouble!

On a happy note - I love that area! My FIL had a home in Osage Beach until just a couple of years ago and I LOVED to go up there and get some Outlet Mall Retail Therapy!
