I thought they made the right decision by picking Abdi. His figures were interesting as were his images. It's something I would like to see in a museum or collection. He had a lovely Mom and I was touched when he said he would give her the $100,000. Very mature for such a young guy.

Peregrine's collection was a bit weird, especially the two deer fetus' that were preserved. It was very disturbing for me. She had so much stuff it was hard to decide what was going on. It was like a garage sale. Her home/studio looked really interesting, more so than the pieces she brought to Brooklyn. I would have loved to wander around just looking at everything there.

Miles took a different turn for his last works. Photographs taken off a video security screen and then manipulated weren't really that interesting. I kind of felt sorry for him because they had praised him all along and I thought he believed he was going to win. I was happy to see he had such a nice family and home life.

I missed the beginning, which I'll watch tonight.....

I thought Myles was a shoe in, too...but that's good editing of a reality show.

Deer fetuses....i gagged. Too "out there" for me.

Abdi was a honey.....couldn't be happier she won.

can you find the site where i can see their work up close...without having to watch a video?

I loved Peregrine's work! I never thought wax could be considered art. I got the state fair vibe and how cool would it be to go to a museum that had cotton candy! I thought Abdi was great as well. I never really got Miles stuff. But loved the picture he drew when he was a little boy. I loved the twin deer's also. I enjoyed these 3 alot. It was so refreshing that they respected each others work.

Great job SJP! Im heading to my local musuem next week. It has been about a year since I have been and cant wait to see the new art!

tell me how the twin deer spoke to you. They disturbed me.

I'm really curious.

They were undoubtedly beautiful.....and still. Was it their beauty or what?

Me, too, Vicki. If I hadn't known they were fetuses, I would have loved them, but knowing what they were upset me. Maybe that's not all bad?

At first I did not think the twin deers were real. They remind me off Snow White & Sleeping beauty which remind me when I was younger and the whole fairy tale thing. Then on a another level it will probaly seem weird. I live in the country and my daughter has always wanted a baby deer. About 4 years ago she found one in the woods in our backyard. We told her to leave it alone and if the mother did not come for it by morning then she could take care of the deer. We closed all the gates so the dogs next door could not get to the deer. Well I woke up and went to go check and was devastated by what I saw. The next door dog climbed the fence and was eating the poor baby deer alive. Still freaks me out to this day. Anyways my dad had to put the deer down and my daughter was devastated. The visual was so horrible and distrubing that when I see these twin deers so pretty & perfect in dealth it just moves me and I wish the other baby deer could have had a more peacefull live/dealth. Alx is 18 and away at College and it made me think of her & miss her. So for a piece of art that can make you feel so many different feelings in just a few seconds is just mindblowing to me.

Honestly now that I think about it I wonder if I love her exhibits because it reminds me so much of Alx. We spent years doing exhibits for the county fairs & state fairs. This time of the year we would be planning everything she would be entering in the fairs.

And isn't this what art is intended to do....not overintellectualize it (although that can be entertaining)...but to touch a part of your soul.

I've said this before but love going to art museums with SEP. She is VERY knowledgable about art/art history/movements/etc etc but she is NOT a snob.

You haven't lived until she's turned to you and said, "well now that's just butt ugly, isn't it?"

OR we argue if she gets the Renoir in her bedroom or I get it in my bathroom.....we argue over who saw it first so who "gets" it. So fun.

I have not done the homework but have been privileged to go to some of the best museums in the world. When we were at the Rikesmuseum in Holland I turned to her and said, "who knew I'd love the Dutch Masters???"

Also, standing in front of Whistler's Mother, Susan pointed out the geometry of the painting, which I never would have seen.

Art...good, bad, and in between...bless them! (Well, not all of them, I guess!)
