"Less Expensive E-reader?"

This is very appealing to me. I haven't bought an e-reader because the initial cost is so expensive. I would be more likely to do this because, well, I am cheap, no, wait, frugal!

They are offering the Kindle for $139 now. There is also a version that is $189. I'm not sure what the difference is.

Are you looking for something cheaper than that?

Yea, go the extra $39. for the Kindle..new addition. Battery life alone is worth it not to mention the amount of books it will hold. I'm even thinking of getting the new one if I could figure out how to sell my Kindle2.

The difference in the 2 new Kindles is the $139. works on WiFi only. So if you have access to WiFi you can get to the Amazon store to buy and access the net.

The $189. has WiFi and 3G (both are global..worldwide access).

There are lots of new features on both over the Kindle2.

The new Kindle sounds great, except for one thing. They took the numbers away on the keyboard. I read a lot of samples and use the numbers to change the location to the last page to look up the book in the Kindle store. The Numbers come in handy other times too. I'm sure there's a button for numbers like the symbol button, but it's not the same. Great deal on the Kindle, though, with all it's new features.

Oh, and even though this doesn't have anything with the new Kindle, I really like the Collections Update. It's really helpful in organizing the books. I love my Kindle.

If I were to buy one, I'd spend the extra money and get the $189 one, so that I could always access my archives and the store.

Also, I prefer the Kindle over a color reader because you have no eye-strain with the e-ink of the Kindle. In fact, my dad is reading again, because he has my old Kindle. He has eye-strain when reading regular books. I think with a color reader, you're more apt to have eye-strain.

I have the Kobo and its good because the ebooks in New Zealand are quite a cheap buy mostly.

However we can now buy the Kindle in New Zealand from Amazon. They have finally included us. It is so tempting but I think I should be frugal as I don't really NEED it, but I WANT it. Sob. Sob. Ah and the exchange rate is good at the moment. But I don't NEED it. My materialistic side is giving me trouble!

I have a friend who's son is in Afg. and is an avid reader. When he was home last month she ordered him the Kindle2 thinking he could down load there...nope! So she kept it and ordered him the new Kindle with the WiFi (which he has), there is a 6 week wait for shipping of them!

I can see so many of our service members serving in Iraq and Afg. getting them now where they couldn't use them before.

The devices are getting cheaper, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed that the book prices are going up. I checked out 4 different titles last week, and not one of them was priced at $9.99. I'm thinking those days are over. (And, no, authors have no control over that!)

I have the nook where the prices vary. That doesn't bother me as much as others. I figure as long as it's still less for hardcovers than a paper book and about the same for paperbacks, it's fine. I bought the nook to save space not to save money (though that was a perk initially). Truthfully, because it's so EASY to buy books, I don't save money because I buy more and can't sell or trade. So, I buy my B authors in paperback so I can sell or trade.
