"WAYR week of April 3 - 9"

Let's start this thread a little earlier this week! It's such a beautiful Sunday here, sunny and warm. It finally feels like spring.
Last night, I finished Carolyn Crane's Double Cross. The end just blew me away and I need to know what's happening next... but apparently the 3rd book in this series won't be released until December. The wait will be very long.
Now I'm reading Ann Aguire's Grimspace. Just a few chapters in, but so far so good!
So, what are you all reading this week?

Linou

I'm about two chapters into KH - My One and Only. It's starting like most KH's books for me, meaning I don't really like what I'm reading yet I can't put it down. I'm going to read a little now that finally I have some Sunday ME time.

Did I just read that APRIL doesn't like Matt Ferrell??? Nope, can't believe that! More for the rest of us, I guess

Ha. Paradise was one of the last JM books I read. I read the sneak peek of it in many books before and HATED it so it really colored the book. It is also why I don't read any previews now because I don't think it represented the book well.

Anyway, I'm reading The Boy Next Door (I think, not sure the title of the anthology by Susan Donovan, Lori Foster and Victoria Dahl). I finished Midnight Assignment by Victoria Dahl and didn't read the other stories in the anthology, but I'm reading the whole thing this time. I'm really enjoying it.

I also bought Kristan Higgins book today at the grocery store. I'll try to get that next.

Isn't Boy Next Door a Meg Cabot? It was cute, if I remember correctly.

Well I finished My One and Only. It wasn't my favorite, so I'm kinda sad about it. I decided I really HATE the "big misunderstanding" plot device. I loved Harper and Nick, but their utter stupidity wore on my nerves. Nevertheless, I gave it 4 stars just because KH's characters and settings are so great. There was a lot of family dynamics that I really related to as well. But these two people should've just stayed married the first time instead of creating all the drama.

uh oh, I'm doomed then. I can't stand the Big Misunderstanding. I think it makes the characters seem stupid. I mean, why can't people just talk to each other?

Anyway, The Boy Next Door is Meg Cabot. But seriously, The Guy Next Door is very similar-sounding. Honest mistake. It's funny because in two of the short stories in The Guy Next Door, lies are the center of the conflict. The heroines think the heroes are someone else and they don't correct them. I don't think I'd mind because they're short stories so I'm less picky but it's odd reading two in a row.

Don't let me ruin your perception of MOAO! It's getting great reviews. Just sometimes, I get so MAD because these are things that could so easily be avoided with a little communication. Therefore I have a hard time believing the story because I'm screaming at the characters. Nick must've been a little to beta for me. I like an alpha male to barge in there and take the woman back already!

I may try to find Guy Next Door. Sometimes when I'm busy, all I need is a short story.

The short stories are cute. The one criticism is that 2 of the 3 are the beginnings of new series by Lori Foster and Victoria Dahl. They're a little steamy. I don't think they end on a cliffhanger so it's not a big deal if you don't read the rest of the series.

I don't mind beta heroes. I just don't prefer big misunderstandings so I'll withhold judgment. Not sure when I'll get to the book, but it's on my kitchen table. I just may keep using the new nook because it's literally a shiny new toy.

I will say that the third one does directly lead into a novel and there is a bit of an open ending. It's not a cliff-hanger but there's not a HEA. So, there's a bit of a warning. Still, overall, I really liked the anthology.

I did a re-read of one of my favorite Linda Howard books, To Die For....some people cannot stand the heroine, Blair, but I think she is an absolute hoot! And the hero, Wyatt, is mighty sexy...

I am now reading The Sweetest Thing, by Jill Shalvis. It is the second book in her Lucky Harbor Trilogy. I am really enjoying this series, and the book is great so far..I love books with teen lovers reunited themes!

Is this the one where he locks her in the car at the end? I loved that book. There was a quote in it about not giving away what you value (sex). It was so appropriate for older girls. I gave the book away and wanted to find the quote to keep and maybe show some girls sometime if it's appropriate.

I just finished Breaking the Rules- S. Brockmann's newest and immediately opened Force of Nature for a re-read. I tried to wait for it to come in from the library but I couldn't wait when I saw it discounted at Target.

On the airplane Thursday night I was sitting in a middle seat so instead of a more explicit book, I read Anne of Green Gables which I probably haven't read since I was a teenager. It is still sooo wonderful. I have to find it at a UBS for my grandaughter.

Get your tissues! Or is it me. I get teased because I cry at all her books even the happy older romances. I haven't yet read her new one. I'll probably start in a week or so. It's definitely at the top, but I'm still coming down from a busy March and I want to be in a calmer state when I read it.

I finished Lorraine Heath's Texas trilogy over the weekend. One on each day! Great stories.

Now reading Angel's Rest by Emily March. Trying to read it fast as I got the 2nd one by mistake with my audible credit thinking it was the first one. However thanks to Kindle was able to purchase 1st one straight away and get into it. Enjoying it. Think she usually writes as Geralyn Dawson, but haven't read anything by her before.

Read both of the Emily March books and enjoyed them but it's not how she wrote as Geralyn Dawson. the 3 contemps that she wrote in that name that is the story of the other 3 brothers of Gabe from Angels Rest is much more hot and they are more romantic suspense. Try them ok.

I'm reading Coyote's Mate and really enjoying it. I love this series, and I want to read Jonah's story, but I don't want the series to end, because then I'll have to wait for the next book. Reading them over time has been nice. Argh. There's always rereads.

She has a new one out that I just bought today at Target--it's called Navarro's promise. I don't think you are introduced to him yet as a character for where you are right now in reading the books.

I loved Coyote's Mate and esp the ending.

Just finished - A lot like love. So good - it was over too soon!

Now reading "The conqueror" by Kris Kennedy. I'm a sucker for medievals.
Set in 1152 England, with the leads born to be enemies, dead fathers that left clues as to possible treasure bought home from the crusades. I'm a 100 pages in, and there is so much intrigue and action with 300 pages to go - I can't wait. She has been kidnapped twice, rescued twice & they've kissed - you guessed it, twice. The language and historical detail is sucking me in - this book is giving me back my romance mojo.

I love a good medieval romance! Out of curiousity though, where does it fall on the erotica scale? Hot, sizzling hot? or just what you find in a regular romance?

I've been a bit limited in time - have only read another 60 pages. The love scene rates as hot - but it was all over in 3 pages and a chapter later he is imprisoned in the Tower of London hating her for betraying him. I'm loving the action but there is only one paragraph of thoughtful introspection every chapter.
I should be done over the weekend and will report back.

I believe I posted previously regarding her historical 'Barely a Lady' excellent book, the 'hero' is a jerk for some of it, but still worth sticking to the book. WELL, the 2nd book in the trilogy is 'Never a Gentleman' and IMHO, one of the best historicals I've ever read. I highly recommend this book, but will not post any spoilers. You should read them in order.

Happy reading,

e

About to start this tonight when I get into bed. Love SM's books, but it ticks me off that it's one of those bigger sized books that cost so much more to buy. With the price of everything going up, why can't authors just have the smaller sizes ???

I'm also reading Susan Lucci's "All My Life". It's okay, but nothing in it so far, is exciting. She certainly doesn't talk trash about anyone.

This book sounds great, Jenny! I find myself in quite the quandry. To keep reading on and finish the series or to wait; that way there will be less time to Lawe's book. Is Lion's Heat, Jonas's book. If so, I'm defintely reading that far. Can't wait for his story.
