"WAYR: Jan 7th- Jan 14th"
 |
I saw nobody started this thread this week. I'm still reading "Thirteenth story" by Diane Setterfield. It's not a long book, but I've managed to find enough time to read 20-30 pages a day. But I like the book a lot, but it reminds me a bit of "Shadow of the wind". Next in line is Jayne Ann Krentz's "Hidden talents". A week ago I've finished her "Eclipse Bay trilogy" and it felt kind of unfinished and undeveloped. I like the characters, but I think they fall in love to soon without any "real" problems. Well, enough from me. I wish you ladies a happy reading week Iva, Zagreb |

2. "School For Heiresses - Sabrina Jeffries et. al."
In response to message #0

oops! The previous WAYR thread should have ended on June 8th, must have been a slip of hand on my part. Oh well, no harm - no foul, right? I'm still on my Sabrina Jeffries kick. I am currently reading her School for Heiress's anthology. The book is made up of four short stories by four different writers, Sabrina Jeffries among them, but each story by each writer revolves around a heroine who attends Mrs. Harris's School for Heiresses. I'm already on the third story by Julia London. I have to say, I'm not usually a fan of short stories, but the story written by SJ is really, really great! I am so in love with the hero (he's half Indian - from India - and half English). She has packed a lot of emotion and angst into this character and the heroine is just so vivacious. I'm already tempted to re-read it again. I'm almost tempted to buy the book, instead of borrowing it from the library, just for this one story. |

5. "Lost Treasure by Kate Sherwood"

Kate Sherwood is a new find for me. She writes gay romances and is a really good writer. I'm enjoying this book a lot, but Dark Horses remains my all-time favorite. It's the first book of hers that I read of hers and I got it free. But I loved it so much, I've bought two of her other books. I posted a description of it towards the end of last weeks post, so I'll post it again, in case anyone's interested. Dan thinks about just driving, leaving the whole mess behind. He's got enough money. He could just arrange to get his stuff and his horse shipped to wherever he's going. Taking off is what he used to do when things got to be too much, and it worked pretty well, really. Dan Wheeler thought he'd found lasting love and stability with his life and work partner Justin Archer. But when Dan finds himself alone again, still working as a horse trainer for Justin's parents, he has to find a way to accept that his perfect life is gone forever. Then he meets billionaire Evan Kaminski, who arrives to buy a horse for his younger sister, and Evan's lover Jeff Stevens, a horse trainer who seems to understand more than just Dan's job. Struggling to deal with all the upheaval in his life, Dan finds himself drawn to both Evan's mercurial passion and Jeff's quiet wisdom. Is Dan strong enough to take a chance on new love, or would it be better—safer—for him to be alone? It's great that I got it free, but I'd pay to read it. Loved the sequel too. I agree, Amal, about Rich being written realistically. I have one brother and three sisters, and my mom did more for my bro than she ever did for us girls, because, "he's a boy." Sheesh! I remember one time when he was a teenager when I literally dragged him down to the basement and showed him the washing machine and instructed him (with gritted teeth) on how to operate it! And when he got married, my SIL initially did most of the housework...luckily she, and then my bro, got wise And, surprise, surprise...Mike's my fav, too LisaA in Washington state |

lol, sorry I got distracted, I meant to say that while Rich was not my favourite hero of the three, I enjoyed BiB the best. The heroine really stood out for me, her messed up relationship with her father, losing her twin brother, finding a new brother - the constant emotional push and shove that she did resonated with me and I loved how Rich as clueless as he was stood by her through it all. Mikey was my favourite hero. I know this sounds silly, but I loved his relationship with his mother, especially at the end, when she slams the door in his face. My least favourite was Nick... |

I agree with Amal (again!). I loved all three books and thought the author totally nailed Rich. My only credibility though is that I do agree with Amal, because otherwise I'm totally a Robin Kaye fan girl! |

Well, I've finished. Liked it but did not love it. What did you all think? (minor) Spoiler Alert!
It's a marriage of convenience plot with a couple of misunderstandings. I wanted to bang their heads together - which is what the secondary characters are doing by the end of the book. RK introduced 3 yummy new brothers in the Idaho part of the story...I can see their books on the horizon. Efy (Sydney)

16. "Last of Sabrina Jeffries...maybe"
In response to message #0

I finally finished off Sabrina Jeffries School For Heiresses series. I still have one short stories of hers to read before I can officially call it quits. I woke up early this morning and stayed in bed well into the afternoon to read "Wed Him Before You Bed Him" about Mrs. Charlotte Harris and her "cousin" Michael - I was really shocked to find out who he was, delighted too. I loved that we only got fleeting glimpses of the hero in past books, SJ never really let on much about his character, just let him hang in the periphery. I enjoyed the premise of the story a lot. But the best part about the book is being introduced to all the heros who'll cross over to the Hellions of Halstead series about the Stoneville family! I just clued in that "cousin" Michael's brother is set to hook-up with Stoneville's sister in SJ's next release! I may just do a re-read of the first two books in the Hellions of Halstead Hall to piece together everything I have learnt so far. |

Hey, sorry, I didn't see your post earlier. Sabrina Jeffries has her Royal Brotherhood Trilogy, which spins off into her School for Heiresses series, which then spins-off into her Hellions of Halstead Hall series. I read book 1 of her School for Heiresses series way back when and didn't love it (though I know many others who did). I was never too keen on picking up anything else by SJ, but her Hellions of Halstead Hall really appealed to me. So I picked up my second book by SJ, "The Truth About Lord Stoneville" and enjoyed it. I picked up the second book in this series because it was there and ended up really liking it as well. Again, for whatever reason, I decided to go back and try her School for Heiresses series again, and then I just became hooked! So as to where to start, I don't know what to say. But I suppose the best place to start would be at the beginning. As I haven't read her Royal Brotherhood series, I can't recommend it yet, so maybe start with her School for Heiresses series. Here are the order for all three series. Keep in mind that book 2 from School for Heiresses is direct continuation of book 2 from the Royal Brotherhood. I was a tad bit confused at first when I read "Only a Duke Will Do", but I think the confusion kept me intrigued. Royal Brotherhood 1. In the Prince's Bed 2. To Pleasure a Prince 3. One Night with a Prince School For Heiresses 1. Never Seduce a Scoundrel 2. Only a Duke Will Do 3. Beware a Scot's Revenge 4. Let Sleeping Rogues Lie 5. Don't Bargain with the Devil 6. Wed Him Before You Bed Him Hellions of Halstead Hall 1. The Truth About Lord Stoneville 2. A Hellion in Her Bed 3. How to Woo a Reluctant Lady |

I have to add another "Please stick with" the "In Death" series. By the time you get to the 3rd book you will be absolutely hooked. She now has 30+ in the series, so you will have lots of happy reading in front of you. I don't usually like futuristic or sci fi settings, but this world isn't too different from our current world. It is very interesting to see how Nora has changed the world Eve and Roarke live in in 2058. A lot of the changes are very subtle, but interesting and fun. I liked Bet Me a lot too. I always want to go make Chicken Marsala when I think about that book. |

I finished reading Ride the Fire by Jo Davis. This is her last book in the series she wrote featuring the firefighters of Station Five. I loved the book and the whole series. Definitely recommend. I need to go buy a Firefighter calendar now-lol! Hali Queens(1 of the 5 Borough's of New York City) |

After several rave reviews (I can't remember if it was on here or Goodreads) I checked out the only book by this author that my library carried. It's really good, if a little dated feeling (It first came out in 2000, but I'm liking it a lot. After this I'm going to do a few quick rereads in preparation for the release of CMI! Woohoo! I've finished the RC I was reading and have the next one on my Kindle but didn't want to start it as I know when I get CMI in my hands I'll stop reading it and go right to CMI. So I am trying to find some short reads till then. I picked up the new release of Catherine Anderson's Sun Kissed which I have read before but in the back is her short story from The Ture Love Wedding Dress, Beautiful Gifts and then an excerpt from her new book coming out later this month Here To Stay. I'm done with those now looking for something to keep me happy till CMI. Lynda V/LighthouseLady East Coast of Central Florida |

I'm reading Scoundrel by Elizabeth Elliot. It's my first by her and it was one of the top 100 on the 2004 AAR poll. It's very good so far! Does she have others that you've read and liked?
