This is so interesting. We've been doing geneological research because my son was given a school assignment. My husband's family was told they were descended from Rev. Jonathan Odell, a loyalist poet who helped turn Benedict Arnold into a traitor. Somewhat true, he was a great......great uncle; our actual great.....great grandfather was his brother William, a patriot. We were even able to find an entire book about him called, Jonathan Odell by Cynthia Dubin Edelberg. Jonathan fled to New Brunswick and was considered a hero there and in England for his loyalist poetry. We're still unsure of what role he actually played in Benedict Arnold's treason. Before reading this research, I had no idea that there were people who opposed the Revolution. And I never would have imagined what their lives were like, especially being on the losing side. Thanks for the title. Joyce Elmhurst, Il (half way between downtown Chicago and Naperville) www.shelfari.com/o1518129820 |
