"What Are You Reading August 8-14"
| |
Hey all, happy Sunday! With the move of my books stocks from the shop to home I have been super super busy this week so I haven't had time to read. Sleeping at 2am and waking up at 5am to work again was unheard of in my book. I am not good at early rising but with so many things on my mind I amn't sleeping well. Reading a few pages each night I did manage to finish J D Robb's Visions in Death. Today I started Kimberly Fisk's Lake Magic while at my father-in-law but I couldn't concentrate so stopped after a few pages. I want to enjoy it to the full so will continue tonight. Hope to get some reading done next weeking on vacation. Back to unpacking books! What are you all reading? Luci Malta |

I finished the wonderful Libertine's Kiss by Judith James this morning and this book is so good that I've been thinking about it all day long. The characters are so wonderful, they feel real and truly broke my heart at some points. Plus the story is set at the end of the Civil War and the beginning of the Restoration era, a period we don't find often in romance novels. Even though I love Regencies, it's a nice change. And Judith James definitely does not write paperwall historicals, the period really came alive in this one. I loved this book! Next up will be either Judith James' Highland Rebel or Rose Lerner's In for a Penny (finally found it in ebook!) Linou France |

I am very excited to begin reading Linda Howard's newest book, Veil of Night, which is being released on Tuesday!!! I've not heard any buzz about the book so far, but I am hopeful that it will be more like classic LH books, with a more of a balance of romance and suspense, rather than her last few books, which have been more suspense heavy, how-to books. Not that her last few books haven't been enjoyable--they were! But, few do hot, sexy, alpha men (and luscious love scenes) as well as Linda Howard I also did not get to start Suzanne Brockmann's newest, Infamous, last week, as planned, so I hope to start it this week, too. Lynda- I'm about half way through this book and am really enjoying it so far! (Though my pesky work deadlines means it has been very difficult to find time to read...argh!!) Happily, VoN is more like the Linda Howard of old...it reminds me of Mr. Perfect, which is a favorite. It has more of a focus on the hero/heroine, though they do are not interacting as much as I'd like, (since the cop hero has to stay away from the heroine until he can gather evidence by the book to clear her from the suspect list.) In lieu of time together, we are in the head of the hero and heroine a nice amount,so we witness their mental lusting for each other...which I'm really enjoying Also, there is lots of the good guy talk that LH does so well So, I'll let you know more when I finish..but, so far, so good! Jenny--I've only read 2 of the books that I brought back from the RWA. They are all in a bag taking up space in my bedroom. I must read and put away also ! I have the Toni Blake book also and thanks for the heads up that it is book 2 in a series. I'll have to head to the bookstore on my day off. Hali Queens(1 of the 5 Borough's of New York City) |

So after much prodding from Jenny, I finally started my second Lora Leigh book. Most of you already know how I felt about the first book I read, but considering that Jenny and Hali and so many other seppies seem to be a fan of LL, I finally decided to give her another chance. This time I’m reading the first book in her Breeds series, Taming the Beast, an Ellora Caves book, and you all know what that means Jenny convinced me to buy LL’s EC books and then promptly she bought me the entire non-EC backlist. So of course now I have to read them But if the rest of the series reads as well as Taming the Beast, I look forward to it. For the most part, I haven’t come across an EC book that I’ve liked as much as this one. Usually with EC books, I find the writing a bit too abrupt, but TTB actually reads like a regular book, but with some super hot scenes.

http://www.rtbookreviews.com/ It's a great website Luci. Lauren/redsox turned me on to it. They have very helpful reviews. I like reading the 4 1/2 star reviews. It also has a bulletin board where you can discuss books. Dawn "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside a dog, it's too dark to read." --Groucho Marx |

SEP and AMANDA QUICK Recently finished "Heaven, Texas" by SEP. Really, really enjoyed it! Thanks SEP. After that I read "I Thee Wed" by Amanda Quick(finished it this afternoon). Loved that too! Even though it was the first in her Vanza series and the last one I read, it wasn't a problem. I think all her books can be read as stand alone without a problem, even the Arcane series. Tonight I will start "Prince Charming" by Julie Garwood. I'm really looking forward to it. Gina |

Luci: Julie Garwood is somewhat new for me. The first of hers I read was "The Wedding" and even today it is one of my all time favortie novels! The next one of hers I read was "For The Roses" and to be honest, I didn't care of it very much. I didn't think it was very well written and was a little slow. I was discouraged to read more of hers - but thank God I didn't stop there. I now have eight of her books in my collection and I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of them (except the one as mentioned above). I am now on page 125 of Prince Charming and can't stop reading. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Gina |

I finished Summer in Sonoma by RC, enjoyed it but taxing following all the stories! Am now well into The Mage's Daughter by LK. Its the second in a trilogy. Probably not really romance, but I am thoroughly enjoying it. Love a bit of magic and mage and journey and good and evil. And a little G romance. Kate New Zealand http://mistea.edublogs.org/ |

42. "Lora Leigh and Robin Kaye"

So Jenny who is happily smirking at me, after months and months of begging me to read Lora Leigh’s Breed series, I have happily started book 2 in the Feline Breed books, published by Ellora Caves. I’ll admit, halfway through book 1, Taming the Beast, I already began to read book 4 – yes, yes, I read out of order – but in my defence, I thought it was book 3. I was really tempted to skip over books 2 and 3, but I decided to let the anticipation build for two of the characters, who in my mind are a lot like Sam and Alyssa of Brockmann’s Troublshooter fame, in the intensity of their feelings for the other, not necessarily their characters or story line. But alas, I have started book 2, The Man Within. So far, so good. I mean really good. Like sweaty, steamy, hot good The funny thing is that since starting this series, I’ve broken a lot of my usual reading habits, like (1) reading out of order. I did skim through book 4 and read the beginning and end quite thoroughly (2) I am skimming through each of the books, then going back and reading it properly. Then going back a third time and reading all the dirty parts again (3) Since I can’t read these books in public, I’ve started reading two books at the same time. One for my commute, the other for the privacy of my bedroom. Which bring me to the second book I’m reading: Robin Kaye’s Too Hot to Handle. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings for this trilogy as a whole, but I’m really looking forward to this book and the next. You all know how I feel about heros being doctors, but for some reason I can overlook this flaw in Dr. Mike Flynn. I think it’s the fact that he can tie his own tie so perfectly – talk about a turn on! Lol
