Didn't want to talk openly about the point of view thing with Ted until people had read it because it's a bit of a spoiler. But I can see you've already pretty much figured it out.
We need to see this through Meg's eyes. ALSO... The minute you go into Ted's head, THE JIG IS UP! Once you're in a character's point of view, you pretty much need to let the reader know what he/she thinks. The mystery of Ted Beaudine is a driving force behind the book.
It's interesting that romance readers expect the male pov but women's fiction readers don't. I've always straddled both worlds which sometimes puzzles pure romance readers.
